Une équipe d'enquêteurs se rend sur les rives d'un lac suite à la mort inexplicable d'un agent de protection des eaux et forêts, retrouvé déchiqueté. Sur place, on retrouve une dent datant de l'ère préhistorique : les enquêteurs sont alors rejoints par Kelly, une paléontologue caractérielle, et par un professeur de mythologie excentrique. Ensemble, ils vont devoir affronter un gigantesque reptile, un véritable monstre assoiffé de sang.
