Started off as a theater actor and caught the eye of director Lino Brocka who casted him in the 1978 film Gumising Ka Maruja. For two years, he was a part of the singing group in the tenor section of the Bacolod Glee Club with Joel Navarro. Appeared alongside Hollywood actor Chuck Norris in the 1990 movie Delta Force 2: The Colombian Connection. Played the lead role in the short film Anino which received the Palme d'Or at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. Displayed his versatility off the camera with his art direction in the 1981 movie Manila By Night/City After Dark for which earned him the Best Production Design Award. Self-taught photographer who launched his own photo exhibit at the Museo de la Carcel Real in Caceres, Spain in 2005. Received several nominations throughout his career out of which he won the Gawad Urian Award after 27 years in 2009 for Best Actor in the movie Yanggaw.
