Was a basketball player for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws before becoming an actor in the 1960s. Won the FAMAS Best Supporting Actor award for Ang Mananandata (1965). Was a beneficiary of the Mowelfund (Movie Workers Welfare Foundation) that provides for the welfare of Filipino movie workers. Was fondly called Kits in show business. Was known for his role as a villain in movies opposite late Filipino action king Fernando Poe Jr., who was also his close friend.

Born to stage comedians, at the age of 7 he appeared on several stage shows. Made a name for himself as a tap dancer and was dubbed as "The Fred Astaire of the Philippines". As a Filipino dancer he was the leading stars of Bodabil (vaudeville) in the 1930s and 1940s. Joined a performing troupe in Hawaii headlined by Atang de la Rama in 1936. Made his debut in films with Bayan at Pag-ibig in 1938.
