Trivia: Hails from a royal Muslim family that has its roots in Lanao Del Sur's Marawi City. Was discovered by a talent scout who found her roaming inside SM City North EDSA supermall in Quezon City instead of attending school. Made her television debut in 1999 in the teen-oriented show called Click. Playing the role of Alwina in the series Mulawin made her a star instantly. Voted the Sexiest Woman in the Philippines in 2005 and 2010. Celebrated her 22nd birthday with the women and children supported by GABRIELA, an organisation that advocates for women's issues. Organized a gift-giving event where she gave food, clothing, etc. to the poor children in Quezon City on her 24th birthday. Donated blood to the Philippines red Cross on the day she turned 30. Diagnosed with a disc bulge on her spine in late 2015 and had to undergo two surgeries. Ranked eighth in MTV Australia's "Sexiest Nationalities in the World" in 2016. Will be reprising the role of the iconic Filipino comic heroine Darna in the film of the same name due to be released in 2017.

Joined the PETA campaign to free elephant Mali in 2013. Made his debut in Cannes Film Festival in 2013 for his movie Death March, which was nominated in Un Certain Regard section.

Was featured in the September 2006 issue of the Philippine Cosmopolitan Magazine as one of the 10 centerfold men in the Cosmopolitan 60 Bachelors and 10 Centerfolds supplement. Entered reality show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity edition as one of the contestants and finished fourth in the show. Finished as a runner-up in a 2002 Bodyshot contest which served as a stepping stone for his showbiz career. Was awarded Male Celebrity of the Night at the 2012 Metro Manila Film Festival.
