Did all sorts of odds jobs growing up; these include selling peanuts at movie theaters, polishing shoes, working at a pants manufacturing factory, etc. Performed on stage as a chorus dancer at the age of 16 at the Avenue Theater and later on at the Lyric Theater; adopted Golay as his first stage name. Collected 5 pesos as his first talent fee. Acted in his first movie Dugo at Bayan (1946) at the age of 19, in which he was credited as Rodolfo Quizon. Established his own production company RVQ Productions in 1965. Diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in 2009, following which his public appearances kept decreasing. Received the prestigious Grand Collar of the Order of the Golden Heart in 2010; also won the Outstanding Manilan in the same year; was awarded the Diwa ng Lahi award in 2012 by City Hall. Honored by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) with the release of a limited edition Dolphy Stamp in November 23, 2013. Honored for his contributions to the Philippine entertainment industry in 2012, with July 13 being declared as National Day of Remembrance. Regarded as Philippine's king of comedy.

Made her debut in the film industry at the age of 4 in the 1970 movie Wanted: Perfect Mother. Won her first FAMAS Award as Best Child Actress for the film Sana Mahalin Mo Ako.
