Jan Michael Vincent (Actor) .. Mike
Born: July 15, 1944
Died: February 10, 2019
Birthplace: Hanford, California, United States
Trivia: Ventura City College grad Jan-Michael Vincent had just finished serving in the National Guard when he was tapped for potential film stardom by a talent agent. At first billed simply as Michael Vincent, the novice actor's "official" screen debut was the 1968 western Journey to Shiloh, though in fact he'd already had a shakedown cruise, as it were, in the Mexican film Los Bandidos (1967). He went on to co-star in the "Danger Island" segment of Hanna-Barbera's Saturday morning TV show The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, and in the prime time serial The Survivors (1969) before graduating to stardom as the hippie-dippie Marine recruit in the popular TV movie Tribes (1970). Subsequent film assignments like The Mechanic (1972) and Bite the Bullet (1975) seemed to bode well for his future as a "reluctant hero" action star, while his work in such productions as Buster and Billie (1974) proved that he had an acting range far beyond that of your usual beefcake hunk. Jan-Michael Vincent enjoyed a successful run as taciturn maverick pilot Stringfellow Hawke in the TV series Airwolf (1984-86) before becoming a fixture in such direct-to-video yarns like Hidden Obsession and Indecent Behavior (both 1993).
Marilyn Hassett (Actor) .. Maureen
Born: December 17, 1947
Trivia: In films in minor and supporting roles from 1969, actress Marilyn Hassett was starred as paralyzed ski champ Jill Kinmont in 1975's The Other Side of the Mountain. Perhaps this brilliant portrayal was too "specialized" to encourage an onrush of offers from producers and directors. Whatever the case, Hassett has never truly attained the stardom she seemed to so richly deserve in 1975. Marilyn Hassett's best film role outside Other Side of the Mountain, and its 1978 sequel, was Esther, the suicidal Sylvia Plath counterpart in the 1979 film version of Plath's The Bell Jar.
Chief Dan George (Actor) .. Old Man Hawk
Born: July 24, 1899
Died: September 23, 1981
Trivia: A full-blooded Tse-lal-Watt Sioux, Canadian-born Chief Dan George was a manual laborer until his late 40s. Sidelined by an injury, George spent a dozen years as chief of his tribe. He stepped down from this post to become an actor at age 61, appearing on the Canadian TV adventure series Caribou Country. His first film was Smith!, produced in 1969. George was Oscar-nominated for his performance as Old Lodge Skins in the 1970 revisionist western Little Big Man. He continued appearing in films throughout the 1970s--sometimes in roles worthy of his talents, sometimes not (1971's Bob Hope vehicle Cancel My Reservation). In this last decade of his life, Chief Dan George actively campaigned for various Native American causes, foremost of which was his effort to guarantee that Indian roles in films would henceforth be played by Indians and not by heavily made-up Caucasians.
