Kentucky-born actress Jennifer Lawrence began her career as a teenager, appearing on shows like Monk and The Bill Engvall Show from 2006 through 2009. In 2008, she appeared alongside Charlize Theron in the critically acclaimed film The Burning Plain, for which she won the Marcello Mastroianni Award for the best young emerging actor/actress. She next made waves starring as the daughter of a troubled mother in 2010's Winter's Bone, which garnered her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. In 2011 she appeared in the well-reviewed romantic drama Like Crazy, joined the X-Men franchise as Mystique and she won the coveted lead role in the highly anticipated adaptation of The Hunger Games, which would become one of the biggest smash hits of 2012. As if that weren't heady enough for an actress only 22 years old, Lawrence earned stellar reviews for her work opposite Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook, a critical and popular hit at the end of that year that earned Lawrence the Oscar for Best Actress. The next year followed the same successful pattern, with the second installment of the Hunger Game series, Catching Fire, capturing the number one spot at the domestic box office for 2013, and grabbing another Oscar nomination, for American Hustle. In 2014, she reprised her role as Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past and starred in the third Hunger Games film, Mockingjay - Part 1. She wrapped up the series the following year, and also won acclaim (and yet another Oscar nomination) for Joy, playing Miracle Mop inventor Joy Mangano. The film reteamed her with director David O. Russell, making it their third collaboration. Her Oscar nomination for the film made her the youngest person, at age 25, to nab four acting nominations.

Alex Kingston
(Actor)
.. Jackie
Born:
March 11, 1963
Birthplace: London, England
Trivia:
A classically trained British stage actress, Alex Kingston earned a following amongst American television audiences with her portrayal of the bold and outspoken Dr. Elizabeth Corday on NBC's E.R. The role was Kingston's best known since she portrayed the lusty title character of The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders (1996) on British television; her work on the often-steamy miniseries earned the curly haired actress both acclaim and a certain measure of notoriety in her native country, two things that virtually ensured her crossover to transatlantic engagements. The daughter of a butcher, Kingston was born in London on March 11, 1963. She first became interested in the theatre during a family trip to her mother's native Germany, where her uncle, an actor, was performing on the stage. After making her own stage debut at the age of five as the Angel Gabriel in a Nativity play, Kingston went on to appear in a number of school productions and got her first professional job at 15, when she had a stint as a school bully on the popular TV series Grange Hill. Following her schooling, she trained at London's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, where she met and fell in love with fellow actor Ralph Fiennes, whom she would marry in 1993 and divorce four years later. After completing her training, Kingston performed in repertory theatre across England and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company. While she portrayed numerous classical characters on the stage, Kingston took on more contemporary characters on television and made her film debut in Peter Greenaway's 1989 The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover. Following her 1996 casting on E.R., Kingston's fan base began to grow, as did her screen appearances. In 1999, she had a leading role as a South African gambler in Mike Hodges' acclaimed Croupier and that same year appeared as a flighty rich woman in the romantic comedy This Space Between Us. Over the next several years, Kingston would find ongoing success in TV, starring on Hope Springs, Marchlands, Upstairs Downstairs, and Doctor Who.

Chris Messina
(Actor)
.. Mike Appletree
Born:
August 11, 1974
Birthplace: Northport, New York, United States
Trivia:
A character-oriented actor who specialized in playing American everymen, Chris Messina emerged in the mid-'90s, landing guest appearances on series programs such as Law & Order and mounting supporting parts in Hollywood features including You've Got Mail and Rounders (both 1998). Messina gained even more exposure when he joined the cast of the quirky HBO comedy drama Six Feet Under during that program's fifth and final season. On that series, Messina played Ted Fairwell, a Republican attorney smitten with Claire Fisher (Lauren Ambrose) who (as the program reveals) will eventually marry her. After Six Feet wrapped, Messina hearkened back to feature portrayals, this time as a lead, in director Jennifer Westfeldt's (Kissing Jessica Stein) critically praised sophomore effort Ira & Abby (2006). The actor proved he could hold his own with a multilayered turn as a neurotic therapist's son who rushes headlong into marriage only to watch his confidence fall to pieces when he learns of his new wife's two ex-husbands. In 2008, Messina took on a supporting role in Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona, opposite Penélope Cruz and Scarlett Johansson. In the years to come, Messina would enjoy continued success as an established actor, appearing in films like Ruby Sparks and Argo, as well as on TV series like The Mindy Project and The Newsroom.

Trivia:
The son of a Toronto financier, 18-year-old Stephen Young was signed to a baseball contract with the Cleveland Indians, but his professional athletic career ended before it began when he injured his knee playing ice hockey. Young spent the next few years as a salesman for a variety of items, then took up radio and TV commercial production. While vacationing in Europe with a friend, he landed a bit part in the superproduction Cleopatra (1963), then went on to minor roles in such Spanish-filmed spectaculars as 55 Days at Peking and The Leopard. Upon returning to Toronto, Young decided to become a full-time actor. Billed under his given name of Stephen Levy, he appeared as Jack Williams on the Ontario-based daytime drama Moment of Truth (1965), and co-starred with Austin Fox on the prime time Canadian adventure series Seaway (1965-1966). He then headed to Hollywood, where he starred in a TV pilot called I Married a Bear; it didn't sell, but did lead to Young's two-season hitch as lawyer Ben Caldwell in the weekly Judd for the Defense (1967-1969). Stephen Young went on to character roles in such films as Patton (1970) and Soylent Green (1973), not to mention scores of made-for-TV movies.
