William Conrad (Actor) .. Frank Cannon
Born: September 27, 1920
Died: February 11, 1994
Birthplace: Louisville, Kentucky, United States
Trivia: Actor/director/producer William Conrad started his professional career as a musician. After World War II service, he began building his reputation in films and on Hollywood-based radio programs. Due to his bulk and shifty-eyed appearance, he was cast in films as nasty heavies, notably in The Killers (1946) (his first film), Sorry Wrong Number (1948) and The Long Wait (1954). On radio, the versatile Conrad was a fixture on such moody anthologies as Escape and Suspense; he also worked frequently with Jack "Dragnet" Webb during this period, and as late as 1959 was ingesting the scenery in the Webb-directed film 30. Conrads most celebrated radio role was as Marshal Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke, which he played from 1952 through 1961 (the TV Gunsmoke, of course, went to James Arness, who physically matched the character that the portly Conrad had shaped aurally). In the late 1950s, Conrad went into the production end of the business at Warner Bros., keeping his hand in as a performer by providing the hilariously strident narration of the cartoon series Rocky and His Friends and its sequel The Bullwinkle Show. During the early 1960s, Conrad also directed such films as Two on a Guillotine (1964) and Brainstorm (1965). Easing back into acting in the early 1970s, Conrad enjoyed a lengthy run as the title character in the detective series Cannon (1971-76), then all too briefly starred as a more famous corpulent crime solver on the weekly Nero Wolfe. Conrad's final TV series was as one-half of Jake and the Fatman (Joe Penny was Jake), a crime show which ran from 1987 through 1991.
Joe Maross (Actor) .. Dave Steuben
Born: February 07, 1923
Died: November 07, 2009
Charles Cioffi (Actor) .. Marty Webster
Born: October 31, 1935
Trivia: A graduate of the University of Minnesota, baleful-eyed, prematurely gray Charles Cioffi made his first off-Broadway appearance in William Gibson's A Cry of Players. Cioffi continued as a familiar presence on the off-Broadway scene, finally making his on Broadway bow in 1990's Stand-Up Tragedy. In his film and TV work, Cioffi has most often been seen as an excitable police official or an uptight executive with something to hide (e.g., the sexually deviant "solid citizen" Peter Cable in Klute). His television work has encompassed a number of daytime soap operas, including Another World, Where the Heart Is, Ryan's Hope, and Days of Our Lives (as Ernest Toscano). Charles Cioffi has also been a regular in the prime-time weeklies Assignment: Vienna (1971), Get Christie Love! (1974), and the 1989 revival of Kojak.
Jenny Sullivan (Actor) .. Sharon
Born: December 01, 1946
Karl Lukas (Actor) .. Rettig
Born: August 21, 1919
Died: January 16, 1995
Trivia: Character actor Karl Lukas was most famous for playing "Lindstrom" opposite Henry Fonda in the Broadway version of Mister Roberts(1948). While he spent most of his four-decade-long career on stage, he also dabbled in television and the occasional feature film. Lukas made his screen debut playing the "inspector" in the Lucille Ball/Desi Arnaz comedy The Long Long Trailer (1954). His other film credits include The Watermelon Man (1970), The Shaggy D.A. (1976), and Memories of Me (1988). Lukas also guest-starred on such television series as Family Affair, St. Elsewhere, and Little House on the Prairie.
Rayford Barnes (Actor) .. O'Connor
Born: January 01, 1920
Died: November 11, 2000
Trivia: A staple of Western-themed films and television series, veteran character actor Rayford Barnes began his onscreen career with John Wayne in Hondo, and in recent years appeared on television in Walker, Texas Ranger and ER. After beginning his career in New York training with Stella Adler and the Neighborhood Playhouse, Barnes moved to San Francisco to open his own theater, and later relocated to San Francisco, where he landed his role in Hondo. A veteran of WWII, Barnes made regular appearances on such TV series as Gunsmoke, The Virginian, and Little House on the Prairie while concurrently appearing in Westerns like The Wild Bunch and The Hunting Party. Rayford Barnes died on November 11, 2000, at St. Andrews Medical Center in Santa Monica, CA. He was 80.
