Worked as a mall Santa at a local department store in the 1970s. In 1971, co-founded Pier One Theatre located on the Halifax waterfront, the city's first alternative theatre company. Founded Filmworks Casting Agency in 1987 where he worked as a casting director. Outspoken advocate against Video Lottery Terminals in Nova Scotia; appears in the 2009 documentary Playing the Machines, detailing his struggles as a former addict. Released an audio book of short stories in 2010 titled Stories, highlighting comedic moments from his childhood, family and career. Volunteers for a number of organizations, including the Ecology Action Centre, Clean Nova Scotia, Metro Housing Association and the Terry Fox Run.
