Peter Whitney (Actor) .. Varnum
Born: January 01, 1916
Died: March 30, 1972
Trivia: Burly character actor Peter Whitney was under contract to Warner Bros. from 1941 to 1945. Whitney spent much of that time on loan-out, playing a variety of moronic thugs and henchmen. His best-ever screen role (or roles) was as identical twin hillbilly murderers Mert and Bert Fleagle in the 1944 screwball classic Murder He Says. He enjoyed a rare romantic lead in the 1946 horror film The Brute Man (the title character was played by Rondo Hatton). Throughout the 1950s and 1960s, Whitney supported himself by portraying some of TV's most scurrilous and homicidal backwoods villains. Peter Whitney essayed a more comical characterization as rustic free-loader Lafe Crick in several first-season episodes of The Beverly Hillbillies.
Katherine Squire (Actor) .. Esther Norden
Born: March 09, 1903
Died: March 29, 1995
Trivia: Best known for her stage work, character actress Katherine Squire also acquired extensive film and television credits. She first appeared on Broadway in 1932, after gaining initial acting experience at the Cleveland Playhouse. She made her feature film debut in The Story on Page One (1959). She made her final film appearance as half of one of the long-married couples interviewed during the course of When Harry Met Sally (1989). Squire's television resumé includes appearances on Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Twilight Zone, and The Virginian.
James Shigeta (Actor) .. Ward Toyama
Born: June 17, 1933
Died: July 28, 2014
Birthplace: Hawaii
Trivia: Hawaii-born leading man James Shigeta made his first film appearance in 1959. Generally cast as everything but Hawaiian--Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan--Shigeta alternated between heroes and villains, depending on the requirements of the script (e.g. whether or not the plot is set during World War II). He briefly became a fan-magazine heartthrob when he played the romantic lead in the 1961 filmization of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Flower Drum Song and had a memorable supporting role as a Nakatomi executive in Die Hard (1988). Though he was never a television series regular, he frequently popped up as a TV guest star. His final film role was 2009's The People I've Slept With. Shigeta died in 2014 at age 81.
Douglas Henderson (Actor) .. Frank Jones
Born: January 01, 1918
Died: April 05, 1978
Trivia: American character actor Douglas Henderson shifted his activities from stage to screen in 1952, when he appeared in Stanley Kramer's Eight Iron Men. Like many general purpose actors of the era, he was frequently cast in science fiction and horror films along the lines of King Dinosaur and Invasion of the Saucer Men. He was generally cast in authoritative or military roles: officers, congressmen, FBI agents, and the like. Douglas Henderson's final film assignment was the 1970 thriller Zigzag; eight years later, he committed suicide via carbon monoxide poisoning.
Nobu McCarthy (Actor) .. Sally Choshi
Born: November 13, 1938
Died: April 06, 2002
Bobby Troup (Actor) .. Smitty
Born: October 13, 1918
Died: February 07, 1999
Henry Beckman (Actor) .. Albert King
Born: November 26, 1921
Died: June 17, 2008
Birthplace: City of Halifax
Trivia: Beckman is a stocky character actor, onscreen from the '50s.
Francine York (Actor) .. Ursula Quigley
Born: August 26, 1938
Died: January 06, 2017
Trivia: American actress Francine York commenced her theatrical career at age nine, in a play titled Keen Teens, or Campus Quarantine; she produced and directed it herself, had it staged at the Aurora (Minnesota) town auditorium, and used the proceeds from the admissions to finance a wienie roast for the local drama club. That was her story, as related in a 1963 TV Guide, and is as good a story as any. Active in high school sports, York bypassed college to become an airline stewardess, but didn't like the work and decided to become a fashion model in San Francisco. From there she headed to Hollywood, and worked steadily in many of the top TV programs of the early '60s, including recurring appearances on the 1964 weekly Slattery's People (she also later appeared on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives as Lorraine Temple). Usually cast in semi-villainous roles, York was also proficient at comedy, as proven by her many appearances on the anthology series Love American Style (1969-1972). A bit too tall to be a movie leading lady (many leading men would have felt self-conscious), Francine York did manage to make several memorable appearances in the '60s films of six-foot-plus comedian Jerry Lewis; perhaps coincidentally, Lewis appeared in an unbilled cameo of the Batman episode in which York played the "moll" of the Bookworm (Roddy McDowall). York continued acting through the 2000s; she died in 2017, at age 80.
Bill Zuckert (Actor) .. Judge Simpson
Born: December 18, 1915
Died: January 23, 1997
Trivia: American actor Bill Zuckert's long career included appearances on stage, screen, radio, and television. He made his acting debut on radio in 1941. During the 1970s, he made frequent television appearances on programs ranging from Dynasty to The Mary Tyler Moore Show to Little House on the Prairie. Zuckert made his last appearance in two films of 1994, Ace Ventura, Pet Detective and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. Zuckert was an active member of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. For the latter, he played a key role in developing a new member program. Zuckert also launched the practice of holding casting showcases for members of both guilds. Zuckert died of pneumonia in Woodland Hills, CA, at age 76.
Douglas Evans (Actor) .. Judge
Born: January 01, 1903
Died: January 01, 1968
Trivia: Douglas Evans was a versatile American supporting actor who during his 30-year career appeared in close to 100 films. He also worked on stage and in radio.
