Made his professional stage debut in 2011, in Gillian Slovo's The Riots. Starred as Borachio in Mark Rylance's 2013 production of Much Ado About Nothing. In 2014, performed in a Bush Theatre production of We Are Proud to Present a Presentation About the Herero of Namibia, Formerly Known as Southwest Africa, From the German Sudwestafrika, Between the Years 1994-1915. From 2014 to 2018, starred as Dr. Marcus Summer in Vera. Starred as Khalid Walker in 2018 drama Deep State.

Was an aspiring singer/song-writer before turning to acting. Took part in several singing competitions as a teenager including Urban Voice, where she was a finalist in 2001. Five years later she made it to the final of UK Unsigned, where she won the singer/songwriter competition. Had just ten weeks to get into Olympic standard shape to play a top athlete in 2011 movie, Fast Girls and worked out for at least four hours daily. In 2015 appeared in the first stage version of Willy Russell's play Educating Rita that used black actors and took on the title role of Rita opposite actor Lenny Henry.

Has English, Irish, Scottish, German, Cornish and Jewish ancestry. Undertook work experience at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough at the age of 15. Read theology at the University of Cambridge. Was a member of The Marlowe Society theatre club at Cambridge. While still at university, played Posthumus in a production of Cymbeline directed by Trevor Nunn, in 2007. Received a Fitzwilliam Travel Grant enabling him to visit Northern India to teach and perform for schoolchildren at 16 schools. Was an original cast member of Laura Wade's Posh at the Royal Court Theatre in London in 2010. Voiced Cole in the 2014 EA video game Dragon Age: Inquisition. Was made a trustee of the Royal Theatrical Support Trust in 2015. In part preparation for his role in McMafia in 2019, he studied the Russian martial art and health system Systema. Has type 1 diabetes.
