Leslie Nielsen (Actor) .. Lt. Frank Drebin
Born: February 11, 1926
Died: November 28, 2010
Birthplace: Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada
Trivia: Although his career stretches back half a century and includes over 100 films and countless TV programs, Leslie Nielsen gained true fame late in his career, when he starred in a series of comic spoofs beginning with 1980's Airplane!.The son of a Canadian Mountie and the brother of Canada's future Deputy Prime Minister, Nielsen was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, on February 11, 1926. He developed an early knack for acting when he was forced to lie to his disciplinarian father in order to avoid punishment, and he went on to become a radio announcer after serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII (despite being legally deaf, the result of a childhood illness). To prepare himself for his future career, Nielsen studied at Toronto's Academy of Radio Arts, which was run by CBC commentator and future Bonanza star Lorne Greene. After several years in radio, he won a scholarship to New York's Neighborhood Playhouse, where he studied acting under Sanford Meisner and dance under Martha Graham. He then spent five years appearing on such live television programs as Tales From Tomorrow before making his film bow in Ransom! (1956). With the exception of his starring roles in the sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet (1956) and the popular Debbie Reynolds-vehicle Tammy and the Bachelor (1957), much of Nielsen's early work was undistinguished; he was merely a handsome leading man in an industry overstocked with handsome leading men. An attempt to do a "Davy Crockett" by starring as Francis Marion in the Disney TV saga The Swamp Fox resulted in a nifty title tune but little else. Nielsen went on to star in such series as The New Breed, Bracken's World, and Hawaii Five-O (1968), but found he was more in demand as a heavy than as a hero.A notorious offscreen practical joker and cut-up, Nielsen was not given an onscreen conduit for this trait until he was cast in the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker spoof Airplane (1980). This led to his deadpan characterization of monumentally inept police lieutenant Frank Drebin on Z.A.Z.'s cult TV series Police Squad, which in turn spawned the 1988 hit The Naked Gun and two sequels. Nielsen also found success in a number of other film spoofs, so much, in fact, that those familiar only with his loopy comedy roles are invariably surprised that, once upon a time, he took himself deadly seriously in films like Harlow (1965) and The Poseidon Adventure (1972). Nielsen died at the age of 84, of pneumonia, in late November 2010.
Priscilla Presley (Actor) .. Jane Spencer
Born: May 24, 1945
Birthplace: Brooklyn, New York, United States
Trivia: Priscilla Beaulieu was the 14-year-old daughter of an American air force officer when, in 1959, she first met Army sergeant Elvis Presley. It was love at first sight, but the ever-gentlemanly Elvis courted Priscilla for a respectable eight years, waiting until she came of age before escorting her to the altar. Presley tried to make the marriage work, but a combination of drugs, liquor and too many female hangers-on virtually foredoomed the union. Still respectful of Priscilla, Elvis saw to it that she and their daughter Lisa Marie were generously provided for in the divorce settlement. After Elvis' death, Priscilla invested very wisely and launched her own performing career, co-hosting the 1980 television "reality" show "Those Amazing Animals" and co-starring for five years (1983-88) on the nighttime TV serial "Dallas." At age 43 (but looking at least 15 years younger), Priscilla made her cinematic bow as Leslie Nielsen's leading lady in the adventure spoof Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988); she repeated the role, with ever-increasing comic expertise, in two Naked Gun sequels, the last released in 1994. That same year, Priscilla Presley became the world's most famous (and undoubtedly most surprised) mother-in-law when her daughter Lisa Marie wed rock-legend Michael Jackson. (Though Jackson and Presley later divorced). In the years to come, Presley would remain a figure in pop culture, notably appearing on Dancing with the Stars in 2013.
George Kennedy (Actor) .. Ed Hocken
Born: February 18, 1925
Died: February 28, 2016
Birthplace: New York, New York, United States
Trivia: Born into a show business family, George Kennedy made his stage debut at the age of two in a touring company of Bringing up Father. By the time he was seven, he was spinning records on a New York radio station. Kennedy' showbusiness inclinations were put aside when he developed a taste for the rigors of military life during World War II, and he wound up spending 16 years in the army. His military career ended and his acting career began when a back injury in the late 1950s inspired him to seek out another line of work.Appropriately enough, given his background, Kennedy first made his name with a role as a military advisor on the Sergeant Bilko TV series. In films from 1961, the burly, 6'4" actor usually played heavies, both figuratively and literally; quite often, as in Charade (1963) and Straitjacket (1964), his unsavory screen characters were bumped off sometime during the fourth reel. One of his friendlier roles was as a compassionate Union officer in Shenandoah (1965), an assignment he was to treasure because it gave him a chance to work with the one of his idols, Jimmy Stewart.Kennedy moved up to the big leagues with his Academy Award win for his portrayal of Dragline in Cool Hand Luke (1967). An above-the-title star from then on, Kennedy has been associated with many a box-office hit, notably all four Airport films. Unlike many major actors, he has displayed a willingness to spoof his established screen image, as demonstrated by his portrayal of Ed Hocken in the popular Naked Gun series. On TV, Kennedy has starred in the weekly series Sarge (1971) and The Blue Knight (1978), and was seen as President Warren G. Harding in the 1979 miniseries Backstairs at the White House. During the mid '90s, he became known as a persuasive commercial spokesman in a series of breath-freshener advertisements. In 1997, he provided the voice for L.B. Mammoth in the animated musical Cats Don't Dance, and the following year again displayed his vocal talents as one of the titular toys-gone-bad in Small Soldiers. Kennedy continued to steadily work through the next two decades; his final role was in The Gambler in 2014. He died in 2016, at age 91.
O. J. Simpson (Actor) .. Nordberg
Born: July 09, 1947
Died: April 10, 2024
Birthplace: San Francisco, California, United States
Trivia: African-American sports personality O.J. Simpson was forced as a child to wear leg braces because of a severe case of rickets. That he mended well is evidenced by his athletic record: U.S.C. football star, 1968 Heisman Trophy winner, a record-setting 2000 yards gained during the 1973 season with the Buffalo Bills, and installment in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. Like many pro footballers, O.J. had yearnings to act, but swore that he'd remain an athlete until his team made it to the Super Bowl. The team didn't, but O.J. did -- act, that is -- and quite well, in such TV projects as Roots and such films as The Towering Inferno (1974) and the riotous Naked Gun trilogy. He also showed up from time to time in the announcing booth on ABC's Monday Night Football and was the "high-flying" star of a series of Hertz Rent-a-Car TV ads. In the spring of 1994, Simpson, who'd previously starred in several failed television pilots like Cocaine and Blue Eyes, had just completed several episodes of the syndicated TV series Frogmen, when he was arrested and accused of the murder of his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. After a long and highly publicized trial, Simpson was found not guilty in October of 1995.
Robert Goulet (Actor) .. Quentin Hapsburg
Born: November 26, 1933
Died: October 30, 2007
Birthplace: Lawrence, Massachusetts, United States
Trivia: Robert Goulet was raised in Edmonton, Alberta and trained at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. After several years' worth of straw-hat musical appearances on both sides of the border--as well as a stint as a Canadian kiddie-show host named "Timber Tom"--Goulet made his triumphant Broadway debut in 1959 as Lancelot in Lerner and Loewe'sCamelot. His signature tune in that show was "If Ever I Would Leave You," which proved an even bigger hit as a record single. On the strength of this song and others like "What Kind of Fool Am I," Goulet earned a Grammy award in 1962. Two years later, his album My Love Forgive Me went gold, and in 1965, he won a Tony for his performance in the Broadway musical The Happy Time. Goulet's bid for film stardom in 1964 yielded the disappointing Honeymoon Hotel; he fared better on television, starring in the 1966 espionage series Blue Light and headlining TV adaptations of Brigadoon, Carousel and Kiss Me Kate. He returned to films in the early 1980s, essaying campy character roles in Beetlejuice (1988) and Naked Gun 2 1/2 (1990); most often, as in Atlantic City (1980) and Scrooged (1988), he has guest-starred as "himself." Having recently survived a life-threatening bout with colon cancer, Goulet recovered sufficiently to perform in a multi-city tour of Camelot, this time in the leading role of King Arthur. Married three times, Robert Goulet's second wife was actress/singer Carol Lawrence. He died of pulmonary fibrosis in 2007.
Richard Griffiths (Actor) .. Dr. Meinheimer/Hacker
Born: July 31, 1947
Died: March 28, 2013
Birthplace: Thornaby-on-Tees, North Riding of Yorkshire, England
Trivia: Falstaffian British character actor Richard Griffiths has been popping up in films since 1980. Griffiths played Sir Tom in The French Lieutenant's Woman (1981), Captain Billings in Greystoke (1982) and Phipps in King Ralph (1981). An accomplished dialectician, Griffiths has essayed a wide variety of ethnic types: in Naked Gun 2 1/2 (1992), he outdid himself in his dual role as the German-accented Dr. Mannheimer and the Georgia-cracker Earl Hacker. British TV fans know Richard Griffiths best as Henry Crabbe in the weekly sitcom Pie and the Sky (1993-95), not to mention his appearances on such earlier series as Bird of Prey (1984), Nobody's Perfect (1980-82), Ffizz (1987-89) and A Kind of Living (1988-90).In 2001, Griffiths took on the recurring role of the imposing Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter film series, playing the role in five of the series' eight films. Griffiths spent the majority of his career alternating between the screen and stage, and in 2004, he took on one of his higher profile stage roles - the eccentric teacher Hector in Alan Bennett's award-winning play The History Boys. Griffiths originated the role in the 2004 West End production and the 2006 Broadway production and later reprised the role in the 2006 film, winning an Olivier Award, a Tony Award, and scoring a BAFTA Film nomination for his work. After completing his work in the Harry Potter series, Griffiths appeared in The Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) as King George II and played a limited engagement in the West End revival of Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys, opposite Danny DeVito. Sadly, his career was cut short, dying at age 65 in 2013 from complications following heart surgery.
Jacqueline Brookes (Actor) .. Commissioner Anabell Brumford
Born: July 24, 1930
Trivia: Jacqueline Brookes was one of but a handful of American actors accepted for training in the 1950s by Britain's Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her New York stage premiere occured in a 1955 off-Broadway production of Tiger at the Gates; not long afterward, she won a Theatre World award for her work in The Cretan Women. It would have been nice had Jacqueline Brookes always had film roles commensurate to the prestige of her stage work, but such was not the case with 1972's Werewolf of Washington. She was better served artistically in some of her later movies, which included Melvin and Howard (1980) and Without a Trace (1983). A stalwart of the Daytime Drama circuit, Jacqueline Brookes has appeared as Ursula Winthrop on The Secret Storm, Flora Perkins on A Time For Us, Beatrice Gordon on Another World and Sister Mary Joel on Ryan's Hope.
Anthony James (Actor) .. Hector Savage
Born: July 22, 1942
Trivia: American actor Anthony James has been playing unlovable, unsavory film roles since the late 1960s. James' lean-and-hungry appearance has usually led him to be cast as characters named Skinny (1975's Hearts of the West) or Slim (1992's The Unforgiven). His larger film assignments include Blue Thunder (1982, as Grundeltus) and Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991, as Hector Savage). Anthony James should not be confused with the "Anthony James" who appeared in the 1949 British film Last Days of Dolwyn.
Lloyd Bochner (Actor) .. Baggett
Born: July 29, 1924
Died: October 29, 2005
Trivia: After racking up impressive stage credits in Canada and the U.S., actor Lloyd Bochner familiarized himself with American televiewers in the supporting role of Captain Nicholas Lacey in the prime-time TV serial One Man's Family (1952). Dozens of guest-star assignments later, Bochner again showed up on a weekly basis as police chief Neil Campbell in Hong Kong (1960). His later TV series stints included The Richard Boone Show (1963, as a member of Boone's "repertory company"), and Dynasty (1981-1982 season, as Cecil Colby). In films from 1963's Drums of Africa, Bochner has been seen in such characterizations as Marc Peters in the Carol Lynley version of Harlow (1965) and Dr. Cory in The Dunwich Horror (1969). By far, Bochner's most memorable assignment was the 1962 Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man," as the scientist who learns all too late that "It's a cookbook!"; nearly 30 years later, he parodied this deathless moment in Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991). Lloyd Bochner is the father of Emmy-winning actor Hart Bochner.
Tim O'connor (Actor) .. Fenzwick
Born: July 03, 1927
Birthplace: Chicago, Illinois
Trivia: American general purpose actor Tim O'Connor gained television fame for his portrayal of a character who was talked about but unseen for nearly half a television season. In 1965, O'Connor walked purposefully onto the set of Peyton Place, and into the role of Constance MacKenzie's long-lost husband Elliot Carson. His later TV-series assignments included Hub Hewitson in the 1979 miniseries Wheels and Dr. Huer during the first (1979-80) season of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. In films since 1970, Tim O'Connor has played reserved white-collar types in such productions as Groundstar Conspiracy (1972), Across 110th Street (1972) and Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991).

Cliff Bemis (Actor) .. Barbecue Dad
Born: May 21, 1948
Trivia: A burly, heavyset character player whose presence suggested both paternal warmth and authority, Cliff Bemis originally grew up on a family owned dairy farm in Elyria, OH, then (later) Lorain, OH, after his father's ailing health prevented him from continuing on as a farm laborer and prompted him to move into the floral business. Following high school graduation, Cliff attended Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where he discovered an intense love of drama and began to pursue professional acting work alongside his studies. He subsequently became involved in Cleveland-area theater and film on multiple levels (including numerous musical theater roles and opera roles, voiceover and jingle-singing assignments, and industrial film appearances), but for many years limited himself to Cleveland-area work. That all changed in 1987 when Bemis' path happened to criss-cross with that of husband and wife actors Robby Benson and Karla de Vito (Modern Love); the pair encouraged Bemis to relocate to Los Angeles, secure an agent, and begin signing for film and television roles. Some of the features in which Bemis appeared include Pink Cadillac (1989), Jack the Bear (1993), Nancy Drew (2007), and Billy: The Early Years (directed by Benson) as a charismatic religious leader. Over the years, Bemis also signed for innumerable television guest roles on series including Quantum Leap, Cheers, Married... With Children, and Dallas. He is also known as one of the chief television spokespeople for the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) restaurants.
D.D. Howard (Actor) .. Barbecue Mom
William Woodson (Actor) .. TV Commercial Announcer
Born: July 16, 1917
Zsa Zsa Gabor (Actor) .. Herself
Born: February 06, 1917
Died: December 18, 2016
Birthplace: Budapest, Hungary
Trivia: Hungarian actress Zsa Zsa Gabor is the prototypical "professional celebrity": famous merely for being famous. She started her stage career in 1933 and three years later won the title of Miss Hungary. She followed her sister Eva to America in 1941, but unlike Eva, did not devote herself to acting. Rather, she inaugurated her lifelong career of collecting jewelry, husbands, and front-page publicity. Among her many spouses were actor George Sanders (who much later in life would marry her sister Magda) and hotel magnate Conrad Hilton. Gabor also made a few movies. She actually came close to a performance in Moulin Rouge (1952), but the bulk of her cinematic achievements were along the lines of The Girl in the Kremlin (1957) -- in which her head was shaved -- and the imperishable Queen of Outer Space (1958). Operating on the theory that any publicity is good publicity, Gabor mostly kept herself in the public eye through a series of contretemps with the law. She was once arrested and fined for using profanity in public; she was sued by a "fantasy" theme park thanks to her cavalier attitude toward written contracts; and, in 1990, she provided a cornucopia of material for innumerable nightclub comics by slapping a traffic cop who had given her a speeding ticket (an act which she herself capitalized upon with cameo roles in The Naked Gun 2 1/2 [1991] and The Beverly Hillbillies [1993]). Gabor also joined the ranks of the politically incorrect for flaunting her many animal-fur coats and for refusing to appear in a nightclub when wheelchair-bound patrons threatened to impede her performance. In 2005, she filed a lawsuit against her daughter Francesca, claiming that she forged her signature to get a loan based on the value of her mother's home, but the case was thrown out of court. In the following years, Gabor experienced health problems, including a stroke, and a number of surgeries related to the incident. Gabor died in 2016, at age 99.
Susan Breslau (Actor) .. Party Guest
Leslie Maier (Actor) .. Party Guest
Ron Rosenblatt (Actor) .. Mr. Redmond
Jennifer Kretchmer (Actor) .. Barbecue Girl
Ryan Harrison (Actor) .. Barbecue Boy
David Zucker (Actor) .. Davy Crockett
Born: October 16, 1947
Trivia: The Wisconsin-born and educated David Zucker, with his brother, Jerry, and Jim Abrahams, worked with the improvisational Kentucky Fried Theater in Madison, WI, before coming to movies in 1977 with Kentucky Fried Movie, a dazzlingly funny satire of movies, television, and popular culture. Written, produced, and directed by the trio, Kentucky Fried Movie became an unexpected success. They followed this up three years later with the monster hit Airplane!, a brutally funny take-off of disaster movies that not only brought an end to that genre, but made the trio into one of the hottest teams in screen comedy. Top Secret! (1984) wasn't nearly as successful, although it did make a profit. However, Ruthless People (1986) was a hit. During the early '80s, the Zuckers were responsible for a short-lived cop show parody called Police Squad, starring Leslie Nielsen, a one-time dramatic film actor who had emerged as a comedy star in Airplane! The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad (1988) was borne from the Police Squad parody and proved a monster hit; this was followed by Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991) and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult (1994).
Robert Weil (Actor) .. George Russell
Born: November 18, 1914

Weird Al Yankovic (Actor)
Born: October 23, 1959
Birthplace: Downey, California, United States
Trivia: Lanky comedian "Weird Al" Yankovic is best known for his goofy but dead-on send-ups of pop hits and their videos. He attempted to translate his popularity to feature films with UHF (1989) with little success. He has made cameo appearances in feature films as well. In 1997, he launched a children's television show in which he showed his video parodies and played different characters. It was canceled after a single season, not because the show was bad, but because the network, CBS, canceled all of its live-action children's Saturday morning programming due to consistently low ratings.

Born: September 13, 1925
Died: June 05, 1999
Trivia: "The velvet fog" was a professional singer at three, a radio personality at four, a published composer at 15, and a film actor at 18. Coming to Hollywood as a drummer in the Chico Marx Band, Mel Tormé made his film debut as a singing/dancing house servant in Higher and Higher (1943). While his celebrity status was assured with his oft-recorded ballad "The Christmas Song," Tormé remained a supporting actor throughout the 1940s in films like Junior Miss (1947) and Good News (1950). His dramatic ability was first tapped in the 1957 Playhouse 90 television drama, The Comedian, in which he played the jellyfish younger brother of dictatorial TV comic Mickey Rooney. Tormé then went on to play a villain in the inexpensive crime flick Girls Town (1957), before reverting to good guy and best friend assignments. Motion pictures have never really been Tormé's priority: he's been too busy writing songs, recording albums, and penning biographies of such contemporaries as Judy Garland and Buddy Rich. In the 1980s, Mel Tormé was a frequent guest star on the TV sitcom Night Court, an offshoot of the well-publicized fact that Tormé was the idol of that series star, Harry Anderson.
