Trivia: The son of character actor Ed Begley, Sr., he began acting while still a teenager, appearing on the TV series My Three Sons when he was 17. Begley performed as a stand-up comic at colleges and nightclubs and worked briefly as a TV cameraman before landing a string of guest appearances on TV series such as Happy Days and Columbo. He debuted onscreen in Now You See Him, Now You Don't (1972), going on to play small roles in a number of minor films; by the mid '70s he was getting somewhat better roles in better films. Begley became well-known in the '80s, portraying Dr. Erlich on the TV series St. Elsewhere; for his work he received an Emmy nomination. His success on TV led to much better film roles, but he has never broken through as a big-screen star.

Trivia: Anjanette Comer, as a teenager, was one of those hyperkinetic types involved in every extracurricular activity available, including basketball, cheerleading and beauty contests. After attending Baylor University for a short period, 18-year-old Anjanette came to California. She planned to enroll in either UCLA or the Pasadena Playhouse; the Playhouse won. Toting up lots of TV credits on shows like Gunsmoke, Arrest and Trial, Anjanette made her first film appearance in 1965's Quick Before it Melts (1965), where she was exotically cast as a Maori girl. She then landed one of the most bizarre assignments of the 1965-66 season: in the jet-black comedy The Loved One, she played Aimee Thanatogenos, who commits suicide by embalming herself! Anjanette's movie activity dropped off in 1970 after she played Ruth in the film version of John Updike's Rabbit Run (1970); she later claimed she let her love life interfere with her work. Anjanette Comer's most recent films include Fire Sale (1977) and the made-for-TV The Long Summer of George Adams (1983).

Trivia: Wiry and intense German leading man Horst Buchholz appeared in many British and Hollywood films where he was usually cast as a romantic lead. During his youth he frequently appeared on radio and stage; he entered films as a voice-over actor in the dubbing of foreign pictures. After appearing at Berlin's Schiller Theater, he was discovered by director Julien Duvivier, who gave him his debut screen role in Marianne de ma Jeunesse (1955). That same year he appeared in Helmut Kautner's Sky Without Stars, for which he won the Cannes Film Festival Best Actor award. Buchholz broke through as a major star after playing the title role in the internationally successful The Confessions of Felix Krull (based on the 1957 Thomas Mann novel), leading him to Hollywood. Although he had a slight German accent, he made his American debut as a cowboy in The Magnificent Seven (1960). He is married to French actress Myriam Bru.

Trivia: Former model Joan Hackett diligently studied acting under Lee Strasberg; proof that her diligence paid off was her critically acclaimed performance in the 1961 Broadway production Call Me By My Rightful Name. A versatile actress who successfully combined brains with beauty (not always the case with ingenues of the 1960s), Hackett made her film debut in 1966's The Group. Perhaps her best film performance was as the lonely frontier wife who is briefly attracted to drifter Charlton Heston in Will Penny (1968). Hackett's TV work included recurring roles on the dramatic weekly The Defenders in the early 1960s and the situation comedy Another Day in 1978. Ravaged by cancer in her last months, Hackett could take some small comfort in the knowledge that her penultimate movie appearance in Only When I Laugh (1981) had won her a Golden Globe award and an Oscar nomination. Joan Hackett was at one time the wife of actor Richard Mulligan.

Trivia: British actor Patrick Macnee barely had time to earn his Eton school tie when he began training for his career on a scholarship to the Webber Douglas School of Dramatic Art. While serving with the Royal Navy during World War II, Macnee made his first film appearance with a small role in The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp (1943). He continued essaying such featured roles as Young Marley in the 1951 Christmas Carol before coming to Broadway with the Old Vic troupe in 1954. He decided to stay in Hollywood a while, appearing in several TV shows and such films as Les Girls (1957). He would later describe most of his roles during this period as "villainy in a tri-corner hat." In 1960, Macnee traded his period duds for a bowler and three-piece suit when he began his long run as sophisticated secret agent John Steed on the British TV series The Avengers (incidentally, the murder that Macnee was "avenging" in the early episodes was that of a woman played by his then-wife Kate Woodville). He remained the one permanent fixture on The Avengers until its demise in 1968, appearing opposite three different jumpsuit-clad leading ladies: Honor Blackman, Diana Rigg and Linda Thorson. Macnee also showed up as a supervisor of sort in the 1977 "retro" series The New Avengers, leaving the karate and gunplay to Joanna Lumley and Gareth Hunt. In America, Patrick Macnee appeared regularly on the TV series Gavilan (1982), Empire (1984), and Lightning Force (1991). Macnee continued working through the 2000s, including a voice appearance in the 1998 Avengers movie. Patrick Macnee passed away in 2015, at age 93.
