Rick Jason (Actor) .. Lt. Hanley
Born: May 21, 1923
Died: October 16, 2000
Trivia: Scion of a wealthy New York City family, Rick Jason managed to get himself expelled from eight different prep schools before finally graduating with acceptable grades from the Rhodes School. Following World War II service, Jason attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts on the GI Bill. He was discovered for the theatre by actor/director Hume Cronyn, who cast Jason as an Ecuadorian Indian in the brief Broadway production Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. After making his movie bow in 1952's Sombrero, Jason could be seen in lightweight second-lead roles in such films as The Lieutenant Wore Skirts (1955) and The Wayward Bus (1957). In 1960, he was cast as a tuxedoed secret agent on the syndicated TV series The Case of the Dangerous Robin. Two years later, he signed up for a five-season hitch as Lt. Gil Hanley on the popular TV war drama Combat. For the first time in his life, Jason found himself subjected to the fan-magazine publicity glare, raising eyebrows by marrying three women during a period of 19 months! Rick Jason's post-Combat career hasn't been quite so remarkable, with appearances in such second-echelon features as Color Me Dead (1969) and The Witch Who Came From the Sea (1976).
Conlan Carter (Actor) .. Doc
Born: October 03, 1934
Joe Turkel (Actor) .. Klimmer
Born: January 01, 1915
Trivia: American actor Joe Turkel had at least one movie leading role, as the Genie in the 1961 kiddie-matinee feature The Boy and the Pirates. Otherwise he seldom rose any farther than featured billing (sometimes, as in Harold and Maude [1971], he got no billing at all). In films since the late '40s, Turkel essayed character parts in such productions as City Across the River (1949), Visit to a Small Planet (1959), The Sand Pebbles (1966), Hindenberg (1977) and Blade Runner (1980) (as Tyrrell); though firmly entrenched in Hollywood, he occasionally grabbed a quick paycheck in such exploitation flicks as Savage Abduction (1975), which afforded him star billing if not a whole lot of prestige. Joe Turkel is best remembered by "auteur" critics for his appearances in the films of director Stanley Kubrick: He played Tiny in The Killing (1955), Private Arnaud in Paths of Glory (1957), and the other-worldly bartender Lloyd in The Shining (1978).
Warren Oates (Actor) .. Stark
Born: July 05, 1928
Died: April 03, 1982
Birthplace: Depoy, Kentucky
Trivia: Oates first acted in a student play while attending the University of Louisville. He moved to New York in 1954, hoping to find work on the stage or TV; instead he had a series of odd jobs. Eventually he appeared in a few live TV dramas, and when this work slowed down he moved to Hollywood; there he became a stock villain in many TV and film Westerns. Over the years he gained respect as an excellent character actor; by the early '70s he was appearing in both unusual, unglamorous leads and significant supporting roles. His breakthrough role was in In the Heat of the Night (1967). He played the title role in Dillinger (1973).
Albert Paulsen (Actor) .. Dorfmann
Born: December 13, 1925
Died: April 25, 2004
Birthplace: Guayaquil
Trivia: American character actor Albert Paulsen has been in films from 1961. Paulsen has more often than not been cast as sinister, foreign-accented secret agents, which kept him very busy during the "Bond craze" of the 1960s. A baggy suit and furtively darting eyes were "de rigeur" for such characters as communist spy Zilkov in The Manchurian Candidate. On television, Albert Paulsen played two different Nazi officers on three different episodes of Combat, and was a guest villain on no fewer than five Mission: Impossible installments.
