Portrayed the role of Joyce Barnaby in Midsomer Murders between 1997 and 2011. Performed in a world tour of Hamlet throughout 1978, alongside Sir Derek Jacobi. Is a Drama tutor at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Moved to London to become an actor immediately upon getting his O-Levels. Worked as a fight director and stunt man throughout the 1960s, under the name 'Jack Barry'. Portrayed Dr George Bullard in Midsomer Murders from 1998 to 2011.

In 2012, was nominated for the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival for his role in Midsomer Murders.

Provided the voice of Barty Crouch Jr. in the 2005 video game Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Starred in and composed the music for the 2009 short drama Good as Gone. Appeared in the Royal Shakespeare Company's production of The Gods Weep opposite Jeremy Irons in 2010.
