Claims that her private investigator parents took her on a stakeout when she was just 3. Starred as Annie Oakley in her high school's production of Annie Get Your Gun. Wrote her first song the same day her father taught her some guitar chords. At 17, she formed her band Texas Pride and began playing in the Dallas area. Came in third in the 2003 season of USA's Nashville Star. In 2011, was named Female Vocalist of the Year by both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music. Writes or cowrites most of her own songs. Founder of the MuttNation Foundation, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, neglected or abandoned animals.
