Trivia: Named the 1987 Michigan High School Soccer Player of the Year. Was the captain of his high-school hockey team that won the state championship. Played both soccer and hockey at Rutgers, leading the hockey team in goals in 1989. Was a member of the 1992 and 1996 U.S. Olympic soccer teams. Played in the inaugural MLS season for the New England Revolution. Member of the band the Gypsies, who opened for Hootie and the Blowfish in 1998. Put out a solo album, Ginger, in 1998. Elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.

Trivia: In 1991, became the first American since Bill Regan in 1948 to play at Wembley Stadium. Played youth soccer and high-school soccer with future National Team teammates Tony Meola and Tab Ramos respectively. Named the 1984 Parade High School Player of the Year. Skipped his senior year at Virginia to play full-time for the U.S. National Team. One of People magazine's 50 Most Beautiful People in 1994. As captain of D.C. United, he helped lead the team to the title in 1996 and 1997. Elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005.
