Kirk Herbstreit (Actor)
Born: August 19, 1969
Birthplace: Centerville, Ohio, United States
Trivia: Named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Ohio football in the 1987-88 high-school year. Quarterbacked and co-captained the 1992 Ohio State football team, joining his father Jim (co-captain in 1960) as just the second father-son duo to captain the Buckeyes. Herbstreit led OSU to a 13-13 tie with bitter-rival Michigan, snapping a four-game losing streak in the series. Hosted a daily radio show called Herbie and Benz on radio 1460 in Columbus, as well as Wall to Wall, a weekend sports wrap-up on WBNS-TV. Has also contributed to several ESPN Radio shows. Rose quickly through the ranks at ESPN, from sideline reporter to College GameDay co-host, later adding game analyst and radio analyst to his duties. Nominated for a Sports Emmy Award in 1997, 2005 and 2006 for Outstanding Sports Personality - Studio Analyst. Cris Collinsworth was the winner each year. Appears annually as a commentator on the popular EA Sports NCAA Football video game. Created, with his father Jim, the Kirk Herbstreit Varsity Football Series, a sponsored Labor Day-weekend challenge featuring top teams from Ohio and around the country.

Trivia: Recruited by coach Mike Krzyzewski and Duke as part of a stellar 1982 class that revitalized the program and starred on Coach K's first Final Four team, in 1986. Tallied 1062 points and 692 rebounds as a four-year starter. Drafted by the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, but wound up playing professionally in Europe (Italy, Spain) for three years. Appeared in an episode of TV's The White Shadow (as a teen) and in the 1990 film I Come in Peace, as well as several national commercials, including an ad for Minolta cameras. Served as an assistant coach to Krzyzewski while attending Duke Law School from 1989 to 1992, ending each season in the NCAA championship game, with wins in 1991 and 1992. Recipient of the Distinguished Young Alumni Award from Duke Law School. Developed into one of most respected voices on college basketball as an analyst with ESPN and CBS, regularly appearing on College GameDay and ESPN's coverage of the NBA Draft. Maintains a litigation practice with the office of Moore & Van Allen in Charlotte. Has coached military basketball teams in Kuwait as part of "Operation Hardwood---Hoops With the Troops."

Trivia: Ran for 2411 yards in his senior season in high school, setting a Texas 4A record. Teamed with Eric Dickerson to form the "Pony Express" at SMU, with each running back recording three straight 1000-yard seasons from 1980-82. Set a Holiday Bowl record in 1980 with 225 rushing yards in a 46-45 loss to BYU, sharing MVP honors with BYU QB Jim McMahon. Became SMU's punter midway through his junior season, averaging 44.9 yards to lead the Southwest Conference and rank sixth in the nation. James was the first player in 21 years to be named all-SWC at two positions. Played professionally for both the USFL's Washington Federals and NFL's New England Patriots. James capped a stellar 1985-86 season (1272 yards) with 105 rushing yards in an AFC title-game upset of Miami, but was held to one yard on five carries against the Bears (and McMahon) in Super Bowl XX. Broke into broadcasting in the Dallas area while also contributing to ESPN's college-football studio shows. Covered bobsledding and luge at the 1998 Winter Olympics during his tenure at CBS (1996-2003) before moving full-time to ABC and ESPN. Established the Craig James Broadcasting School in 1993, assisting in the careers of Merril Hoge and Kirk Herbstreit, among others. Embroiled in a 2009 controversy involving son Adam's treatment by Texas Tech football coach Mike Leach, who allegedly had Adam locked in an equipment shed while he recovered from a concussion.
