Brazil's Salvador: Preserver of African-Brazilian Patrimony
Season 11 · Episode 10
Brazil's once-largest port of entry, Salvador, imported millions of slaves for nearly three centuries. That city is now the center of the nation's Afro-Brazilian culture, a direct consequence of the brutality of slavery and the ingenuity of slaves in surviving the terror of the institution. That culture is now internationally celebrated, through music, dance, and martial arts.
