At both the CBC and NBC television networks, he reported from a dozen war zones, interviewed world leaders like Margaret Thatcher and Nelson Mandela, and his coverage of the Ethiopian famine was instrumental in the creation of Live Aid, one of the most successful disaster relief campaigns of all time.
