Served nine years as the mayor of Lipa City, Batangas, from 1998 to 2007, becoming the first female mayor of the city. Became the first female governor of the Province of Batangas in 2007 and was re-elected in 2010. Dubbed as the Grand Slam Queen due to the number of Best Actress awards she has won.

Her growing-up years were tough. Her mother abandoned her and her siblings when Kim was only 12. Her father had already abandoned them years ago. The children were brought up by their relatives. Shot to fame after winning the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition in 2006. Was crowned Princess of Philippine Movies and TV in June 2010.

Got her first major break when she bagged the lead role in the soap opera Flordeluna. Mga Basang Sisiw (1981) was her first movie. Won the Best Actress Award at the Manila Film Festival for her role in the movie Kailan Ka Magiging Akin? (1991). Her performance in Last Viewing (2009) won her two Best Actress Awards at the Young Critics Circle and the Gawad Pasado Awards.

Trivia: Her talent was first recognized at a comedy bar called Funline. Joined a place called Music Box thereafter. Participated in a talent hunt show and won the title Clown In A Million. In 2006, won the Best Comedy Actress Award from the Philippine Movie Press Club for her role in the sitcom Aalog-Alog. Released her debut album Pokwang...Ang Album Na May Puso in 2009. Bagged the Bert Marcelo Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2014 Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation Box-Office Entertainment Awards.

Was appointed as the CEO of ABS-CBN Corporation in 2013. Won the Gold Stevie Award for the Female Executive of the Year in Asia, in 2014. Served as the Gala chair for the 43rd International Emmy Awards held on November 23, 2015 in New York. Is co-executive producer of the film Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis which won the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize at the 66th Berlin International Festival in 2016. Has a degree in Communication Arts from St Paul's College, Manila.
