Trivia: Her Sri-Lankan parents moved from Zambia to England two years before she was born. Started acting at Oxford University, Oxford, England in amateur plays and received very good reviews. Began her career as an investment banker specialising in mergers and acquisitions before studying for an MA degree in acting. Made her stage début in 2008 as Jessica in RSC productions of The Merchant of Venice and as Bianca in The Taming of the Shrew. Carried the Olympic flame through Wimbledon in 2008. Continues to appear in films, TV series and radio. Voiced the role of Sister Friede in the video game Dark Souls lll in 2017.

Was having dinner in a pizzeria when he discovered he was to play the title role in David Copperfield for the BBC, along with Sir Ian McKellen and Maggie Smith, in 1999. Played Edmund in a theatre production of King Lear at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin, Ireland in 2013.
