George Montgomery (Actor) .. Lt. Cam Elliott
Born: August 29, 1916
Died: December 12, 2000
Trivia: Rugged, handsome, stalwart, taciturn leading man George Montgomery (born George Montgomery Letz) began appearing under his given name in low-budget films as an extra, stuntman, and bit player in 1935. He changed his name in 1940 when he began getting lead roles, going on to a busy screen career primarily in westerns and action films. For a time Montgomery was very popular, receiving much publicity for his offscreen romances with such stars as Ginger Rogers, Hedy Lamarr, and Dinah Shore; he and Shore were married from 1943-62. Service in World War II interrupted his career, and after the war he was assigned mostly to minor productions. He starred in the late '50s TV series Cimarron City. In the early '60s Montgomery directed, produced, and wrote several low-budget action films shot in the Philippines. He was rarely onscreen after 1970.
Karin Booth (Actor) .. Susan Hannah
Born: June 20, 1919
Died: January 01, 1992
Trivia: Former model and chorus girl Katherine Hoffman was signed by Paramount in 1941, where she was billed as Katherine Booth. Moving to MGM in 1942, she changed her screen name to Karin Booth and was given the standard studio "star" build-up. After acquitting herself nicely in MGM's The Unfinished Dance (1947) and The Big City (1948), Karin was dropped by the studio for reasons that remain unclear. Karin Booth continued working in films into the 1950s, usually in such lower-berth programmers as The Cariboo Trail (1950), Tobor the Great (1955) and The World Was His Jury (1958); she retired in 1959.
William Fawcett (Actor) .. Cubby Crouch
Born: January 01, 1893
Died: January 25, 1974
Trivia: From his first film appearance in 1946 until his retirement sometime in the late 1960s, the wizened, rusty-voiced actor William Fawcett specialized in cantankerous farmers, grizzled old prospectors and Scroogelike millionaires. He worked frequently at Columbia, appearing in that studio's quota of "B" westerns and Arabian Nights quickies, as well as such serials as The Adventures of Sir Galahad (1949), in which he played the juicy bad-guy role of Merlin the Magician. Though occasionally seen in sizeable parts in "A" pictures--he played Andy Griffith's septuagenarian father in No Time For Sergeants (1957)--Fawcett's appearances in big-budgeters frequently went unbilled, as witness The Music Man (1962) and What a Way to Go (1964). Baby boomers will fondly recall William Fawcett as ranch-hand Pete ("who cut his teeth on a brandin' iron") in the Saturday-morning TV series Fury (1956-60).
Steven Ritch (Actor) .. Black Cat
John M. Pickard (Actor) .. Sgt. Chris Zanoba
Born: June 25, 1913
Died: August 04, 1993
Trivia: A graduate of the Nashville Conservatory and the model for U.S. Navy recruiting posters, John Pickard entered films in 1946 following a four-year stint in the navy. Pickard played supporting roles in scores of Westerns and action dramas before reaching stardom as Captain Shank of the U. S. Cavalry on the NBC television Western series Boots and Saddles. Filmed entirely on location at Kanab, UT, the series enjoyed a two-season run (1957-1958) and also featured Gardner McKay as Lieutenant Kelly. Pickard earned a second stab at small-screen stardom in Gunslinger (1961) and played supporting roles in nearly every other popular television drama, from Gunsmoke to Simon and Simon. He was tragically killed by a rampant bull while vacationing on a family farm in his home state of Tennessee.
Ed Hinton (Actor) .. Capt. Phillip Dudley
Born: January 01, 1927
Died: January 01, 1958
John Pickard (Actor) .. Sgt. Chris Zanoba
Born: June 25, 1913
Jim Moloney (Actor) .. Tony Zanoba
Died: March 23, 1994
Trivia: Beginning his career as a supporting actor who played small roles in Mister Roberts and Seminole Uprising (both 1955), Jim Moloney switched to screenwriting in the 1980s. Moloney wrote the scripts for The Fiendish Plot of Fu Manchu (1980) and the television movie The Night They Saved Christmas (1985).
Rory Mallinson (Actor) .. Toby Wilson
Born: January 01, 1913
Died: March 26, 1976
Trivia: Six-foot-tall American actor Rory Mallinson launched his screen career at the end of WW II. Mallinson was signed to a Warner Bros. contract in 1945, making his first appearance in Price of the Marines. In 1947, he began free-lancing at Republic, Columbia and other "B"-picture mills. One of his larger roles was Hodge in the 1952 Columbia serial Blackhawk. Rory Mallinson made his last film in 1963.
Howard Wright (Actor) .. Col. Hannah
Born: September 30, 1896
Died: January 01, 1990
Trivia: American singer and character actor Howard Wright was best known for starring in stage musicals following WWI. Much later, he began performing on radio, television, and in movies of the '50s and '60s.
Russ Conklin (Actor) .. High Cloud
Jonni Paris (Actor) .. Malawa
Born: January 01, 1932
Died: January 26, 1999
Trivia: Actress Jonni Paris began her career as a child playing bit parts in Our Gang comedies and worked for RKO in the 1940s. She's best remembered, however, for her later television work; she appeared on such series as Falcon Crest, Highway to Heaven, and Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. In 1999, Paris died of cancer at the age of 66.
Joanne Rio (Actor) .. Tasson Li
Richard Cutting (Actor) .. Col. Robert E. Lee
Born: October 31, 1912
Paul Mcguire (Actor) .. Spence
Born: March 13, 1913
Kenneth MacDonald (Actor) .. Dinker
Born: January 01, 1901
Died: May 05, 1972
Trivia: A stage actor since the 1920s, Kenneth MacDonald found the going rough in Hollywood until he published and distributed a pamphlet titled "The Case of Kenneth MacDonald." This little self-promotional book brought him to the attention of studio executives, and throughout the 1930s MacDonald could be seen as a mustachioed, mellifluous-voiced villain in scores of westerns and melodramas. His work in the Charles Starrett westerns at Columbia led to a lengthy association with that studio. From 1940 through 1954, MacDonald played featured roles in such Columbia productions as Island of Doomed Men (1940), Power of the Whistler (1945) and The Caine Mutiny (1954); he was also prominently cast in the studio's short subjects, especially in the comedies of the Three Stooges and Hugh Herbert, his most familiar role being that of a society criminal or shyster lawyer. During the 1960s, Kenneth MacDonald was a semi-regular on the Perry Mason TV series, playing a solemn judge.
