Darius Rucker (Actor)
Born: May 13, 1966
Birthplace: Charleston, South Carolina, United States
Trivia: Was one of six children raised by a single mother. Formed Hootie and the Blowfish in 1986 after his eventual bandmate Mark Bryan heard him singing in the shower. Collaborated with R&B artist Jill Scott and hip-hop's Snoop Dogg on his first solo album, Back to Then. Was inspired to play country music after hearing Radney Foster's album Del Rio, Texas, 1959. In 2010, Rucker released his second album, titled Charleston, SC, 1966. Was initially dismissed as a gimmick when he began playing country music. Some country radio stations wouldn't play his songs, so he crossed the Southeast in his car, appearing on dozens of radio shows. Was only the third black artist (the other two were Ray Charles and Charlie Pride) to hit the top spot on the country-music chart.
Ne-Yo (Actor)
Born: October 18, 1979
Birthplace: Camden, Arkansas, United States
Trivia: Born in Camden, AR, R&B musician Shaffer Chimere Smith Jr. is better known as his stage name Ne-Yo. His debut album In My Own Words was released in 2006, and the singer would remain squarely in the public eye during the following years, with a consistent stream of hits. Ne-Yo would also make regular appearances in films, with roles in Save the Last Dance 2, Stomp the Yard, and Battle: Los Angeles. He starred as the Tin Man in the NBC's live-event version of The Wiz in 2015.
Peter Frampton (Actor)
Born: April 22, 1950
Birthplace: Beckenham, Kent, England
Trivia: British rock musician Peter Frampton was practicing guitar at age eight and was a professional at sixteen. As a member of a bubblegum group called The Herd, Frampton enjoyed his first brush with fame. In 1969, the young musician teamed with Steve Marriott to form Humble Pie. In 1971, Frampton felt he'd outgrown the group and hit the trail on his own, spending the next few years in session work with such established giants as George Harrison. Winds of Change, his first solo album, came out in 1972, but it wasn't until 1976 that Frampton finally struck the mother lode with Frampton Comes Alive the double album that held its Number One sales slot for 17 weeks. Frampton's next album, 1977's I'm With You, was not as successful, and his next career move turned out to be his worst. Frampton agreed to co-star with the Bee Gees in Robert Stigwood's filmization of the Beatles album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978), which ended up a monumental failure. Following this fiasco, Frampton suffered a number personal and professional blows from which he still has not completely recovered--not the least of which was a near-fatal auto accident. Despite his drop-off of popularity, Peter Frampton has continued to record and to perform before respectable crowds.
Deana Carter (Actor)
Born: January 04, 1966
Josh Turner (Actor)
Born: November 20, 1977
Birthplace: Hannah, South Carolina, United States
Trivia: An icon of neo-traditionalist country music during the 2000s, Hannah, SC, native Josh Turner explicitly modeled his style and approach to vocals upon those of icon Hank Williams, and in fact reportedly authored his first blockbuster single, "Long Black Train," (2003) after feeling inspired by one of Williams' box sets. This brought Turner national attention and a broad fanbase, thanks in no small part to its willingness to grapple with Biblically oriented themes such as salvation and redemption. The same year's album, also entitled Long Black Train and supervised by one-time Dolly Parton producer Frank Rogers, performed equally well. Turner issued follow-up recordings, Your Man and Everything is Fine, in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and moved into film acting with a portrayal of Christian singer/songwriter George Beverly Shea in Robby Benson's Billy Graham biopic Billy: The Early Years (2008).
Carly Pearce (Actor)
Julio Iglesias Jr. (Actor)
Born: February 25, 1973
Birthplace: Madrid, Spain
Trivia: Broke into show business as a model and did a campaign for Versace. Big musical break came in 1999, when his single "Nothing Else" was included on the Music of the Heart soundtrack. Performed as the opening act for Cher's 1999 North American tour. Competed on Mira Quien Baila, a Spanish version of Dancing With the Stars. Winner of Gone Country, a country-music-competition reality show on CMT, which led to his first country single, "The Way I Want You." Has also done some acting and performed the lead role in The Music of You, a short film directed by Lloyd D'Souza.
Cole Swindell (Actor)
Ceelo Green (Actor)
Born: May 30, 1974
Birthplace: Atlanta, Georgia, United States
Trivia: Lost his father when he was 2 from a heart attack; and his mother when he was 18 due to complications from a car accident two years earlier. Belonged to Goodie Mob, a pioneering Southern rap act in the 1990s. Released two albums on Arista in the early 2000s, but the label dropped him due to disappointing sales. Half of Gnarls Barkley, a hip-hop duo that also features Danger Mouse. "Crazy," the 2006 debut single of Gnarls Barkley, became the first single to reach No. 1 in the U.K. based on download sales alone; it made it to No. 2 in the U.S. Rolling Stone ranked "Crazy" the No. 1 song for 2000-2009 in its Top 50 Songs of the Decade list. Had a smash viral hit in 2010 with "F. You"; the YouTube video has garnered more than 38 million views.
