The youngest of six siblings.Grew up in the Netherlands, on his family's dairy farm.Knew he wanted to become a veterinarian after helping deliver a litter of piglets when he was 12.In 1961, met wife Diane Pol when he was an exchange student at Mayville High School in Michigan.Moved to the U.S. in 1971.Since the 1970s, has been treating animals in rural Michigan, United States.In 1981, opened Pol Veterinary Services in Weidman, Michigan.His three children are adopted.In 2011, his son Charles convinced him to let him film a documentary about Dr. Pol, which led to the concept for The Incredible Dr. Pol.Supports 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America).Speaks English, Dutch, French and German.
