Keir Dullea (Actor) .. David Bowman
Born: May 30, 1936
Birthplace: Cleveland, Ohio, United States
Trivia: Cleveland-born Keir Dullea found himself in the thick of Manhattan's intellectual scene when his parents took over the management of a Greenwich Village bookstore. Dullea attended Rutgers and San Francisco State, then launched his acting career in regional theater. He made a spectacular film debut in The Hoodlum Priest (1961), playing a born-to-hang juvenile delinquent. He was more sympathetic but no less emotionally disturbed in 1962's David and Lisa; as late as 1965, he was still playing mentally unstable youths in films like Bunny Lake is Missing. The biggest film hit with which Dullea was associated was 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) in which he played the time-and-space-travelling astronaut Bowman. He repeated this characterization (and answered several of the questions posed by 2001) in the 1984 sequel 2010. Though he'd been active on the New York stage in the 1950s, Keir Dullea did not appear on Broadway until 1970, when the 34-year-old actor portrayed a twentysomething blind man in Butterflies are Free.
Gary Lockwood (Actor) .. Frank Poole
Born: February 11, 1937
Birthplace: Van Nuys, California
Trivia: Gary Lockwood was the astronaut who didn't make it to Jupiter in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). A former stunt performer, Lockwood's first film work was as stand-in for Anthony Perkins, with whom he appeared on camera in 1960's Tall Story. Before his unfortunate space ride in 2001, Lockwood starred on the network TV series Follow the Sun (1961) and The Lieutenant (1963); afterward, he was seen in such theatrical films as R.P.M (1970) and Project Kill (1976). Gary Lockwood was for several years married to actress Stefanie Powers with whom he co-starred in a memorable 1969 episode of TV's Love, American Style, wherein Lockwood got his mouth stuck on a doorknob!
William Sylvester (Actor) .. Dr. Floyd
Born: January 31, 1922
Died: January 25, 1995
Trivia: American-born actor William Sylvester relocated to England just after World War II. For the next quarter of a century, Sylvester was a fixture in British radio, TV and films, graduating from roles of the "two-bit hood" variety to full-leading man status. His most famous movie assignments included the lead in the ventriloquist-controlled-by-dummy yarn The Devil Doll (1964), and the crucial expository role of Dr. Heywood Floyd in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968). Returning to the U.S. in the late 1970s, William Sylvester continued essaying secondary character parts in films, and was seen as Dr. Leonard Driscoll on the 1976 TVer Gemini Man.
Daniel Richter (Actor) .. Moonwatcher
Leonard Rossiter (Actor) .. Smyslov
Born: October 21, 1926
Died: October 05, 1984
Trivia: Storklike British comic actor Leonard Rossiter came to films by way of the revue stage. His most prolific film years were 1965 through 1980, during which time his earthy humor brightened such overblown features as Hotel Paradiso (1966), Oliver (1968) and Barry Lyndon (1974). His best-remembered appearance during this period was as Quinlan in the Peter Sellers/Blake Edwards comedy The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976). Leonard Rossiter died in harness, collapsing during a London stage appearance in 1984.
Robert Beatty (Actor) .. Halvorsen
Born: October 19, 1909
Died: March 03, 1992
Trivia: Robert Beatty spent his early adulthood in Canada as a gas-company cashier, salesman and amateur actor. Upon arriving in London, Beatty enrolled at the RADA, making his film debut as an extra and stand-in. During World War II, Beatty achieved fame through his eyewitness radio reports of the nightly London bombings. In most of his postwar film, stage, radio and TV work, Beatty was cast as a rough-hewn American or Canadian. One of his favorite stage roles was rude 'n' crude American junk dealer Harry Brock in Garson Kanin's Born Yesterday. He also played more than his share of detectives, most prominently as radio's Phillip O'Dell, and on the 1958 TV series Dial 999. Beatty was given a chance to demonstrate his versatility in the dual role of a milquetoast British hubby and a slick Italian gangster in Her Favorite Husband (1950). Later film roles included Lord Beaverbrook in The Magic Box (1951), Halvorsen in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), and two separate characters in Superman III (1980) and Superman IV (1984). On television, Robert Beatty was seen in the miniseries Jesus of Nazareth (1977, as Proculus) and The Martian Chronicles (1980), and as President Ronald Reagan in the 1987 PBS special Breakthrough at Reykajavik.
Margaret Tyzack (Actor) .. Elena
Born: September 09, 1931
Died: June 25, 2011
Birthplace: Essex
Trivia: British actress Margaret Tyzack's activities were confined to the stage at the time of her film entree in the early '60s. Her rare film appearances include The Whisperers (1967), with Edith Evans, and the Stanley Kubrick productions 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) (as Elena) and A Clockwork Orange (1971) (as "a Conspirator"). American TV fans are most familiar with Margaret Tyzack through her appearance in several British series telecast in the '60s and '70s by PBS. The actress played Winnifred in The Forsyte Saga (1969), was one of The First Churchills (1971), and had the title role in Cousin Bette (1972).

Ann Gillis (Actor)
Born: February 12, 1927
Trivia: In films from age nine, red-haired Ann Gillis excelled in spoiled brat roles for nearly a decade. She was somewhat more benignly cast as Becky Thatcher in 1938's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (though her "mad scene" when trapped in a bat-filled cave was one of the most terrifying scenes ever captured on film) and as the perky title character in 1939's Little Orphan Annie. When adulthood beckoned, Gillis found it hard to secure good roles; perhaps her best showing during her late teen years was as Lou Costello's spunky Irish sweetheart in The Time of Their Lives (1946). Retiring from films in 1947, she made sporadic comeback attempts throughout the next decade. In 1959, she briefly resurfaced on TV as hostess of a nationally telecast presentation of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Thereafter, Ann Gillis retired to private life in England, save for one final appearance in Kubrick's 2001: Space Odyssey (1968) as the mother of astronaut Gary Lockwood.

Glenn Beck (Actor)

John Ashley (Actor) .. Astronaut
Born: December 25, 1934
Died: October 04, 1997
Trivia: John Ashley should be a familiar name and face to anyone who attended a drive-in double feature in the 1950s. Ashley starred or co-starred in such passion-pit fodder as Hot Rod Gang (1958), How to Make a Monster (1958), Frankenstein's Daughter (1959) and High School Caesar (1960). In 1961, Ashley co-starred with future Flipper leading man Brian Kelly in the short-lived TV action series Straightaway. Ashley switched his base of operations to the Philippines in the 1960s and 1970s, frequently wearing several hats as actor, producer, director and scriptwriter. Films like Mad Doctor of Blood Island (1969) may not have been cited at the annual Oscar ceremonies, but they paid the bills many times over for the peripatetic Ashley. In the 1980s, Ashley hooked up with television producer Stephen J. Cannell to work on such series as The A-Team. He later teamed with Frank Lupo to executive or co-executive produce such series as Walker, Texas Ranger (1983), Werewolf (1987) and Something is Out There (1988). In the mid-'90s, Ashley began working as an in-house producer for Tri-Star Television. On October 4, 1997, John Ashley was working on the film Scarred City in New York, when he suffered a fatal heart attack.
