In Jackson, Mississippi in 1968, an extraordinary thing happened: a sleepy, easy-listening radio station stopped playing Henry Mancini and began playing Jefferson Airplane. With no playlists, no rules, and very few inhibitions, this new counterculture freeform station rocked the mid-South and became a way of life for its young listeners throughout the 1970s.
