Season 5 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Waste: Part 1

When Lucas, Mark, and Micah get lost in Old Mexico, they are held hostage by a group of bandits who intend to kill the men and take Mark as a slave. Micah is seriously hurt and buried alive, so it's up to Lucas to save them.

Episode 2 - Waste: Part 2

While trapped in the ghost town saloon, Lucas tries to come up with a plan to escape with his son and Micah after Mark refuses to leave without him. When one of the bandit's wives goes into labor, Lucas must deliver the baby rather than escape.

Episode 3 - Lou Mallory

Lou Mallory, a stunning redheaded, arrives in North Fork and starts buying up land and some of the town's businesses. Lou Mallory and Lucas start disliking each other after she reveals plans to build a railroad on "worthless" land but they become fast friends when he helps her out of some serious trouble.

Episode 4 - Quiet Night, Deadly Night

When a woman arrives in North Fork with symptoms of small pox, Lucas, Lou Mallory, Doctor Burrage and two hotel occupants are quarantined in the hotel with a dangerous outlaw.

Episode 5 - Death Never Rides Alone

Gunslinger Johnny Drako rides into town and tells Sweeny, the bartender, that he is looking for Lucas McCain. After Johnny leaves the saloon, Sweeney hurries to tell Lucas, who is in Micah's office.

Episode 6 - I Take This Woman

Dennis O'Flarrety arrives in North Fork, intending to marry Lou Mallory. The hotel owner looks for a way out from marrying the man to whom her dying father promised her.

Episode 7 - The Assailants

An assassination plot unfolds as four gunmen disguised as cavalrymen enter North Fork. Their target: Sen. Jim Borden. Their weapon: a Gatling gun.

Episode 8 - Mark's Rifle

Sharpshooter Marty Blair tries to persuade Lucas to buy Mark a rifle. After Lucas shoots a man during a robbery at the hotel, Mark and Lucas disagree on the character of the man.

Episode 9 - The Most Amazing Man

Fast-draw artist Wade Randall is in town, bragging of his gun battles with notorious bad men, until one of them shows up to challenge his story. Lucas begins to think that maybe Wade is not "the most amazing man" after all.

Episode 10 - Squeeze Play

When Lucas refuses to sell his land Mr. Prescott will stop at nothing to to change his mind. He hires men to try to persuade Lucas, but no matter what challenges are thrown at him, he refuses. Even Lou and Mark don't understand his refusal.

Episode 11 - Gun Shy

Mark's careless actions cause the death of a friend. Unable to accept the truth, he blames the rifle and runs away from home. Soon, he is faced with a tough decision that could be a matter of life and death.

Episode 12 - The Anvil Chorus

Nils Swenson, North Fork's blacksmith, volunteers to take the marshal's place for a few days while Micah attends a wedding in another town. To help maintain peace, Nils institutes a policy that anyone coming into town must turn in their weapons, to be returned to them when they leave. His plan backfires when some dishonest men come to town.

Episode 13 - Conflict

Lucas's self-confidence begins to slip away when he misses an easy shot that could have cost Mark his life.

Episode 14 - Incident at Line Shack Six

A murder occurs at a railroad camp near North Fork and a young Indian friend of Lucas' is accused of the killing. When Lucas tries to help the boy, he finds himself on trial and threatened with hanging for aiding and abetting a fugitive.

Episode 15 - Suspicion

On the road, Lucas and Mark come upon Winslow Quince, a peddler whose wagon has broken down. They help him bring his wagon to North Fork for repair. While in town, Quince barters several items and he is soon implicated in a series of murders.

Episode 16 - The Sidewinder

Gridley Mau, the son of a man Lucas killed during an attempted robbery, comes to North Fork looking for revenge. When he threatens a gunfight with Mark, Lucas demands him arrested and charged but Lou Mallory has other plans.

Episode 17 - The Sixteenth Cousin

The first railroad train is coming to the new North Fork station. On board is a Japanese nobleman and his servant, visiting the West to learn more about the United States. When they are insulted by a pair of local hooligans, the foreigners seek revenge.

Episode 18 - Hostages to Fortune

At Halloween, rustlers take advantage of the seasonal disguises to raid a cattle ranch. Lucas' faith in his son's honesty is shaken when he hears rumors of Mark being mixed up with the thieves.

Episode 19 - And the Devil Makes Five

Mark and Lucas run into Micah on the trail and stay to help him when the prisoner he is transporting injures his arm. The next morning, Lucas' life is in mortal danger when a snake crawls into his bed. Mark must lure the snake away before it strikes.

Episode 20 - End of the Hunt

While Mark goes hunting for Old Spike, Lucas goes hunting for his mortal enemy who showed up in North Fork. Lucas is thrown into jail to stop him from murdering his former friend.

Episode 21 - The Bullet

Lucas is baffled when the marshal of a neighboring town refuses to hold a gambler who just attempted murder.

Episode 22 - Requiem at Mission Springs

Mark is injured in an accident, leaving his legs paralyzed. At the doctor's suggestion, Lucas and Mark set out on a trek to Mission Springs. Little do they know, a gang of Yuma Prison escapees are hiding somewhere near.

Episode 23 - The Guest

Mario Arsatti, a charming stranger, comes to town claiming to be an acquaintance of a good friend from Lucas' past. After becoming friendly, it turns out to be merely pleasure before business. Mario has been hired to kill Lucas.

Episode 24 - Old Man, Running

Lucas, who blames his wife's death on his father-in-law, refuses to help the old man elude a gang of gunmen.

Episode 25 - Which Way'd They Go?

The notoriously lazy Jackman brothers discover their mortgage has been foreclosed. Clearly unfit for farming, they head to Paradise, a nearby town. The family patriarch takes the job of marshal and deputizes his sons. They soon realize they've gotten in over their heads.

Episode 26 - Old Tony

Mark and his girlfriend Laurie discover that an old hermit is very lonely. Old Tony invites them to lunch and allows them to look for arrowheads on a remote part of his land. The teenagers face dire peril when they become trapped in quicksand.
