Episode 1 - Performance AnxietyAt Steph's (Kat Foster) birthday party, Eddie (Brad Garrett) becomes embarrassed over Joy's (Joely Fisher) boisterous rendition of "Happy Birthday." When he points out to her that she is an over singer, she strikes back citing his celebrity impersonations drive her crazy. Meanwhile, Jeff's (Eddie Kaye Thomas) present for Steph is not as "timely" as she would have liked, but kicks her into gear on an overdue project. Episode 2 - Four Neighbors and a FuneralEddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher) discover a neighbor they never took the time to know has died. When Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is made pallbearer and Steph (Kat Foster) is asked to eulogize the deceased, Joy reaches out to the widow and offers her singing talents for the funeral. Feeling left out, Eddie tries to find ways to be involved in the service. His talents end up being best used when he advises a kid at the service who feels like an outcast. Episode 3 - Come Out and PlayWhen Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) is challenged by snooty private school Principal Neil Bender (guest star John Cho) to a faculty basketball game, he feels like it will be a sure win with Eddie (Brad Garrett) giving his team the vertical edge. Afraid of shattering his wife's image of him and letting down his team, Eddie fakes an injury in order to avoid playing in the game. Steph (Kat Foster) calls Eddie out on his lie and persuades him to come clean to Joy (Joely Fisher) and Jeff that not all tall men can play ball. Episode 4 - Tale of the TapeWhen Steph (Kat Foster) suggests watching an adult film with Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas), he feels both excited and scared at the same time. Always there to help a neighbor out, Eddie (Brad Garrett) offers to pre-screen Jeff's film choice to make sure it's appropriate viewing material. Meanwhile, Joy (Joely Fisher) ends up in the hospital after she pushes herself too hard at the gym and gets angry when she discovers that her husband was watching pornography while she was away recovering. Episode 5 - Mixed DoublesThe Starks and the Woodcocks engage in some platonic wife-swapping when Steph (Kat Foster) takes Eddie (Brad Garrett) to yoga class and Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) makes Joy (Joely Fisher) his new tennis buddy. Jeff and Joy's tennis lesson isn't as fun as she originally thought it would be when she realizes Jeff uses it as a form of therapy. What began as friendly diversions soon incites jealousy when Eddie chooses to get a bite to eat with Steph over spending time at home with Joy. Episode 6 - Vintage EddieIt's Jeff's (Eddie Kaye Thomas) birthday and when Joy (Joely Fisher) tells Eddie (Brad Garrett) that their joint present to him will be lingerie, he refuses to sign the card. After receiving Joy's present, Jeff is thrilled when he is under the impression that Eddie got him his own gift. After being put on the spot all Eddie can offer him is a handshake. This leads Jeff to question Eddie's friendship at the most unfortunate time - when Steph (Kat Foster) dons the birthday lingerie. Episode 7 - Bedtime StoriesEddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher) are at odds when one of their new bedside lamps is broken and Eddie refuses to be the one that gets it fixed. Convinced Joy should be responsible for fixing her own lamp, Eddie insists he is too busy to help and instead enjoys his bright side of the room. Fed up with the division of responsibility, Joy takes the working lamp and leaves Eddie in the dark. Episode 8 - No More Mr. Vice GuyWhen Churchill High School's principal is given a forced leave of absence, Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) finds himself "acting principal." With his young neighbor taking the reigns, Eddie (Brad Garrett) shows too many signs of insubordination and soon finds himself paying the consequences. Episode 9 - Everybody Digs DougEddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher) get a strong dose of reality when Allison (Krysten Ritter) returns home with Doug (Timm Sharp) expecting to sleep in the same room. When Eddie puts his foot down not allowing it, Allison decides that they will sleep next door at Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) and Steph's (Kat Foster) house. Adding insult to injury, Jeff invites Doug to fill in for Eddie at school while he is on suspension. Episode 10 - Really Big BrotherWhen Eddie (Brad Garret) decides to become a "Big Brother" and mentor an underprivileged child - unfortunately, the agency makes a mistake and pairs him with an adult "Kenneth Westchester" (JB Smoove). To avoid helping Joy (Joely Fisher) with spring cleaning, Eddie makes excuses to hang out with Kenneth and begins to learn that being a "Big Brother" doesn't necessary have anything to do with age. |
Episode 11 - A Raisinette in the SunWhen a swanky new movie theater opens in their neighborhood, Eddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher) can't wait to try it out. But their gourmet popcorn dreams are dashed when Kenny (JB Smoove) perceives one of the theater employees to be racist. Being the good friend that he is, Eddie rushes to Kenny's defense, but soon comes to the conclusion that Kenny over-reacted and resolves to prove it him. |
Episode 12 - Snip / DuckWhen a pregnancy scare rattles Eddie (Brad Garret) and Joy (Joely Fisher), they decide that they need to take care of business. The mind games begin as Eddie and Joy scheme to get the other to close up shop on their reproductive organs. |
Episode 13 - Sob StoryWhen Joy (Joely Fisher) gets frustrated with Eddie's (Brad Garrett) inability to show emotion, Kenny (J.B. Smoove) and Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) unsuccessfully try to get him to turn on the water works. As a last resort, Joy and Eddie attend an "intimacy workshop" for couples led by the "living, loving and sharing" Dr. Friedman (guest star Wendie Malick). But when the workshop takes a strange turn, Joy starts to see Eddie's lack of sensitivity as a flaw she can appreciate. |
Episode 14 - Second Marriage GuyEddie (Brad Garrett) and Joy (Joely Fisher) get into an argument when she insists on knowing when he will be home from Karl's (Nick Bakay) house. Aggravated with the way their wives make them report in, Eddie and Jeff (Eddie Kaye Thomas) find they are jealous of Karl's cozy life with his second wife and decide to try to implement some changes in their own marriages. In an effort to mimic the habits of a "second marriage couple," Eddie convinces Joy to have separate bank accounts. Meanwhile, Jeff makes his own list of marital changes but chickens out and takes extreme measures to keep Steph (Kat Foster) from reading it. |
Episode 15 - Swimming With SharksEddie (Brad Garrett) thinks he's off the hook when Joy (Joely Fisher) decides they should sit this anniversary out. But when she gives him a sentimental present, Eddie scrambles to find a way to outdo her. Vowing to take Joy on her lifelong dream snorkleing trip, Eddie sets out to learn how to swim with the assistance of self-proclaimed"Black Dolphin" - a.k.a. Kenny (J.B. Smoove). Yet before long, he is forced to salvage romance in a different way when his plan drowns. |
