Episode 1 - Episode 1Orphaned as a child, Jane Eyre is brought up first in the cruel and loveless household of her aunt, Mrs Reed. She is then sent to Lowood Asylum until the age of 19 to quell her rebelliousness. Her early years are marked by severe discipline and the death of her best friend.

Episode 2 - Episode 2At 18, Jane quits her position as teacher at Lowood to become governess to Adèle Varens, ward of the mysterious Mr Rochester at Thornfield Hall. Jane finds Rochester brusque and perplexing, unaware that Rochester is attracted by her elfin wit and independent spirit.

Episode 3 - Episode 3But as their love grows,strange events are occurring at Thornfield. Manic laughter in the night and an unexplained fire.Then on the eve of their wedding day, a visitor from Rochester’s past. But it is only at the altar that Jane learns the ter rible truth.The mad woman in the attic is Rochester’s wife.

Episode 4 - Episode 4Horrified, she flees, almost perishing on the open moors. She is taken in and cared for by the handsome young clergyman St John Rivers and his sisters, and later learns that they are her cousins. It seems that Jane is not penniless after all; a wealthy uncle left her an inheritance.

Episode 5 - Episode 5At last life is looking rosy for Jane – apart from the nagging ache of losing Rochester. St John proposes, but Jane cannot accept.Then one day, she hears Rochester’s voice calling out to her.
