Episode 1 - That Was Me in Grade NineMark is eager to begin his final year of elementary school. He'll be at the top of the social food chain! But when Mark discovers that he needs glasses, his dreams come tumbling down. |
Episode 2 - Reach for the TopWhen the St. Bridget’s quiz team gets to compete on the televised trivia show “Reach for The Top”, Mark and his friends are sure they’re going to bring home the win, but when Mark sees his crush Cara on the opposing team, he loses all his game. Mark desperately flails at the questions, cutting off the host and failing miserably until his team starts to question if Mark is sandbagging on purpose! Meanwhile, Mike Jr gets more responsibility at VOCM – he’s now working their rowdy live-to-air events on location at the local dive bar. Mike Jr’s having the time of his life, running games, giving out prizes, and picking up girls – that is until Mary shows up and scolds him. She’s not ready for her boy to become a man! |
Episode 3 - You're Full of ItPanic breaks out when the Critch house’s plumbing gets backed up one morning. It turns out their septic tank is full, and there’s only one thing to do – call in Mary’s dad. And so, as Mike Sr prepares to endure the presence of his emasculating father-in-law, Mark is faced with his own discomfort – heading to school with a full bladder. Once Mark arrives at St. Bridget’s, relief is not an option as an act of bathroom vandalism results in the facilities being off-limits and ending in a tense interrogation by a Nun who is judge, jury, and executioner. Meanwhile, Mike Sr and Pop deal with friction from Mary’s dad while he clears their clogged plumbing. He fires barbs at Mike Sr, insinuating that he’s not good enough for his little girl, and at Pop for sharing a room with a child. Finally, the family’s septic tank is cleared, grievances are aired, and mercifully, bladders are emptied. |
Episode 4 - Growing PainsWhen Mark realizes his friends think his comic book collection is immature, Mark impulsively sells them all and quickly regrets it. |
Episode 5 - Bonfire NightMark and his friends are excited for Bonfire Night - an annual tradition where bonfires are lit all over town. But their night takes a turn when Fox gets roped into illegal activities. |
Episode 6 - My Funny ValentineIt’s Valentine’s Day and as Mark sweetly prepares a special card for Fox, he gets a call from Cara asking him to be her Valentine. Shocked, Mark accepts, not knowing what else to do. He’s sure they’ll never know about each other. Later when Mark gives Fox her Valentine card, she’s moved by his affection, but then when she sees Mark out to dinner with Cara she’s crushed. Mark tries to cover it up but ends up making a mess of things with Cara too. At the Critch house, Mary feels like her family doesn’t need her anymore and takes a temporary job at the Post Office, which throws home life into disarray. Mike Sr struggles to adapt to the change and learns that he needs to show his wife that she’s appreciated. Ritche deals with his feelings for Tina, Fox takes a waitressing job, and Dick learns that he has a daughter. |
Episode 7 - Go Into the LightMark has a near-death experience when he falls into a pool; he's left questioning life, death, and the afterlife. |
Episode 8 - ThanksgivingWhen Mark gets the chance to compete in a theater festival, the chance to make a big impression on powerful onlookers goes to his head. Mark takes some advice from his abrasive uncle and runs his show with an iron fist – but his “my way or the highway” style of directing only drives his cast and crew away. Faced with the choice of having to swallow his pride and apologizing or doubling down at showtime, Mark chooses the latter and takes the stage playing all of the parts himself in a nonsensical whirlwind. Meanwhile, Pop’s brother Leo comes to visit for American thanksgiving and opens up old wounds for Pop. The two initially squabble over old scores but eventually realize that their time together is limited, and they agree to mend fences while they still can. |
Episode 9 - The Ghost of Christmas PresentIt's Christmas time and Mark discovers “Santa” has come early when he finds his brand-new gaming system hidden in the house. Mark can't help himself and starts playing with his gift. |
Episode 10 - How to Succeed in BusinessWhen Mark starts a business venture as a school project, he quickly realizes that running a profitable company is more than having a good haircut, talking loudly, and exploiting underlings. |
Episode 11 - Airing OutIt’s Mark’s fourteenth birthday, and he’s greeted by a monster pimple that makes him so self-conscious that he covers it with a homemade pasty concoction - and from there his day only gets worse. He gets “flakied” on the bus, the birthday bumps at school, and later, his mother discovers him “reading the articles” in a dirty magazine. Meanwhile, the Critches perform their annual “Airing Out” ritual, where they take all the upholstered furniture and rugs from the house and let the air get at them on the lawn. However, while they’re beating the dust out of their belongings, tensions rise, and family secrets come to light. |
Episode 12 - CabaretWhen Mark gets the chance to take the stage as a stand-up comedian, he realizes he doesn't have his own distinct voice. And so, Mark draws inspiration from those who matter the most to him. |
Episode 13 - Forever YoungIt's the end of the school year, and Mark is tasked with giving the graduation speech, Mark takes some time to reflect on how his friends and family have shaped him. |
