Episode 1 - Uneasy Lies the Head That Wears the Crown

Revolution sweeps across Europe and reaches Britain. Victoria, heavily pregnant, is shocked by the unexpected arrival of her half-sister and the deposed King of the French. The Chartist movement threatens the monarchy and Victoria must confront the fact that her people may wish to end her reign. Downstairs, Skerrett and Francatelli plan a future together and a new footman, Joseph, arrives. Victoria and Albert must grapple with Lord Palmerston, the incendiary Foreign Secretary, and Lord John Russell, the hapless Prime Minister. The mob attempts to storm the Palace and Victoria and Albert decide to flee, until Victoria suddenly goes into labor.

Episode 2 - London Bridge Is Falling Down

After the birth of Princess Louise, Victoria is too weak to travel to Osborne House. When it appears that the Chartists have become a violent movement, Victoria must order troops to protect herself. Sophie’s carriage is overturned by the mob, but there is a frisson when Palmerston comes to her rescue. Louis Philippe upsets Albert and must say farewell and Feodora clashes with her sister. Bertie discovers he is next-in-line. Abigail reveals a great conspiracy to the Queen. Victoria allows the Chartists to present their petition and the royal family arrive at Osborne, Albert’s great creation.

Episode 3 - Et in Arcadia

At their new residence at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight, Victoria and Albert have the opportunity to educate their children away from the turmoil of London. But Victoria is frustrated to be so far from her public, and summons Palmerston and Russell to join the royal party when Palmerston’s conduct regarding the visit of Kossuth to Britain proves ever more provocative. The Foreign Secretary is embroiled in a game of intrigue with Feodora when his liaisons with the Duchess of Monmouth are intercepted. Victoria and Albert struggle to recover from an explosive argument at dinner over Bertie’s education and Victoria’s priorities as a mother and a Queen.

Episode 4 - Foreign Bodies

The royal couple are estranged when Albert runs for the Chancellorship of Cambridge University, leaving Victoria in London to confront a spiraling cholera crisis. On the streets, an eccentric young visionary, Dr. Snow, strives to solve the mystery of the disease. When cholera reaches Skerrett and Francatelli’s new business venture, Victoria and Albert are compelled to put their differences behind them.

Episode 5 - A Show of Unity

Victoria determines to visit Ireland after an attempt on her life. Palmerston organizes a tour to Cork and Dublin. Victoria is heartened by her reception, but Albert sees only division. The worldly Lady Palmerston hosts the Royal household at Classiebawn Castle. Sophie and Joseph’s romance blossoms, whilst Victoria and Albert are in turns intrigued and appalled at the unconventional arrangement of the Palmerston marriage. Victoria and Albert argue over the true nature of Irish allegiances. In London, Bertie is terrorized by a tutor, under Feodora’s care, who uses her newly acquired authority to feather her own nest. Victoria reveals to Albert that she is once again pregnant.

Episode 6 - A Coburg Quartet

A Georgian ball is planned to celebrate the christening of Prince Arthur. When private etchings of the Royal family are made public, Victoria, Albert and Leopold are horrified. There are fears that Bertie has inherited the madness of King George. At the ball, Sophie and Joseph consummate their romance, whilst Victoria and Feodora have a showdown when the Queen discovers Feodora has been selling invitations. When Albert tampers with Victoria’s design for a new coin they fight like never before. Albert fears Victoria is not of sound mind, and tells Victoria he no longer loves her like he once did.

Episode 7 - A Public Inconvenience

Victoria and Albert have never been further apart. Albert unveils his plans for an international exhibition on a scale the world has never seen before. Meanwhile, Palmerston causes uproar when he sends the navy in to blockade Greece after Don Pacifico, a British subject, is attacked. Monmouth engages Penge to provide confirmation of Sophie and Joseph’s affair. Sophie is disheartened to learn of Joseph’s past at Chatsworth. Palmerston and Albert’s popularity plummets, but Palmerston wins back his support in parliament. Victoria determines to win back Albert’s affection even if it means reconciling with Feodora, and resolves to stand by Albert and his vision, even if no one else will.

Episode 8 - The White Elephant

The whole world is watching as the Great Exhibition is opened to the public. It is the biggest day of Albert’s life, and he and Victoria are determined to make it a success. The occasion appears to be a glorious triumph, but behind the scenes Palmerston suffers a knock back as he misreads a political situation. Feodora, meanwhile is foiled in her plans to marry her daughter to Louis Napoleon, and her true nature is revealed to Albert. Sophie must decide if she is to run away to America with Joseph. The exhibition takes its toll on Albert, who collapses.
