Trivia: Born in the Hong Kong, living in the U.S. from the age of 11, martial arts expert and actor Robin Shou was a veteran star of over 20 Hong Kong actioners when he finally returned stateside to make his Hollywood debut playing Liu Kang in Mortal Kombat (1997). Originally a civil engineer, Shou went to Hong Kong as a tourist. There, a producer offered him a small role as a KGB killer in his latest film. Shou, a former International Forms Champion, a four-time Traditional Form Grand Champion in California, and member of the National Wu Shu Team, proved a natural in front of the camera and quickly became a star. Like Jackie Chan and similar action heroes, Shou performs his own stunts. In 1997, he co-starred with the late comedian Chris Farley in the popular Beverly Hills Ninja.

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Actor) .. Shang Tsung
Born: September 27, 1950 in Tokyo, Japan
Trivia: Charismatic, muscular, handsome, and often exuding a dangerous sexuality, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa specializes in playing the evilest of vile villains, most of whom despite their exceptional martial arts skills, are skilled in spectacular manners. Tagawa's willingness to accept villainous roles such as that of the wicked sorcerer Shang Tsung in Mortal Combat (1995) has drawn criticism from certain Asian American groups, who fear that he is perpetuating negative stereotypes, but Tagawa offers an interesting perspective, citing the fact that the action film is the most popular genre worldwide. When Tagawa plays a bad guy, he plays it to the hilt, trying to imbue his villains with depth to demonstrate that in order to be so successful at being bad, they must possess a certain amount of positive qualities, including discipline, intelligence, and commitment. In his personal life, Tagawa is the antithesis of the characters he plays. He is known for his unusual courtesy, non-violent demeanor, his wisdom, and for his unflagging devotion to helping young people. A deeply spiritual man, Tagawa has developed a unique philosophical approach to martial arts, Chun Shin, which primarily centers on developing the inner state and spirituality of the practitioner rather than on the physical movements of fighting. The purpose of the exercises of Chun Shin is to release the energy centers within, creating a harmony between mind and body. Tagawa was born in Tokyo, Japan, the son of a Japanese American father and a Tokyo actress. His father, a native of Hawaii, worked for the U.S. military and when Tagawa was five, his family moved to Texas. This was during the 1950s, when racism was rampant throughout the South. For Tagawa, the change from a supportive environment to a hostile one was a great shock. As a young adult, Tagawa briefly attended the University of Southern California where he studied martial arts. The following year, he returned to Japan to further his studies at a prestigious school under the tutelage of master Nakayama, one of the most highly regarded fighters in Japan. But for Tagawa, there was a spiritual component missing from training -- that, and perhaps the feeling that he was not accepted into Japanese society, led him to return to the U.S.Although he had been interested in acting for many years, Tagawa did not become an actor until he was 36 years old. He made his feature film debut in The Last Emperor (1984) and went on to work steadily in feature films and on television. Many of his film appearances have been in the direct-to-video category. Still, Tagawa has managed to develop a devoted following and has at least one web site devoted to him on the Internet. As mentioned, Tagawa specializes in villains, but occasionally he plays different roles as he did in the much-honored independent drama Picture Bride (1994) in which he plays a sugar cane farmer who orders a Japanese mail-order bride 25 years younger than himself. The latter 1990s also found Tagawa's Hollywood work coming more frequently and in larger profile releases. After small roles in such films as Vampires (1998) and Snow Falling on Cedars (1999), Tagawa could be seen in such eagerly anticipated large-scale productions as Pearl Harbor and Planet of the Apes (both 2001).
Bridgette Wilson-Sampras (Actor) .. Sonya Blade
Born: September 25, 1973 in Gold Beach, Oregon, United States
Trivia: After starting as an athlete herself, playing volleyball as a teenager, Bridgette Wilson began a show business career after winning the Miss Teen USA pageant in 1990, and would end up coming full circle to her athletic beginnings by marrying tennis player Pete Sampras in 2000. Wilson's athletic-yet-curvy frame and gorgeous face have often placed her as the beauty in films, which seems quite appropriate in consideration of her beginnings as a beauty queen. Born September 25, 1973, in Oregon, Wilson relocated to Los Angeles in 1990 after winning the crown as a teen, and took on her first role -- on the soap Santa Barbara -- the following year. Her debut on the big screen came alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1993's Last Action Hero, in which she portrayed Schwarzenegger's daughter. Two years later, she appeared in Higher Learning starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and would expand upon her beauty queen profile to include a disciplinarian leadership role in Mortal Kombat. Her image as the beauty, however, was maintained and furthered in her role as Adam Sandler's character's love interest in Billy Madison (also 1995), a role which also permitted her an exploration of her comedic talent. Through the 1990s, Wilson played numerous roles of varying status in films for television and theater, with a notable appearance as the cold Elsa Shivers in the teen horror movie I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997).In addition to her role on Santa Barbara, Wilson has made guest appearances on several television programs including Saved by the Bell, Frasier, and Murder, She Wrote. In 2000, she played Bridget Deshiell on the series The Street, and also revisited pageantry in her role as Miss Texas in the film Beautiful. Additionally, 2000 was the year she wed Pete Sampras.Wilson supported Matthew McConaughey and Jennifer Lopez by graciously stepping aside to allow for their romance to blossom in The Wedding Planner in 2001. She played small roles in The Extremists and Buying the Cow the following year. She and Sampras had a son, Christian, in November 2002.

Born: February 14, 1972
Trivia: A long-haired, exotically charged Hollywood performer with a screen presence that frequently projected dark menace, T.J. Storm built his career as an entertainer on a bedrock of decades-long martial arts expertise. A native Hoosier, Storm grew up in Hawaii; he subsequently attended the Joanne Barron/ D.W. Brown Acting Academy and trained on the side in a myriad of disciplines including, though not limited to, jujitsu, tae kwan do, arashi-ryu karate, and Northern Shaolin kung fu. Given Storm's appearance, his rapid ascent to the level of eighth degree blackbelt, and his proficiency in all of the said forms, it was perhaps inevitable for Hollywood to pigeonhole him in action and crime vehicles, though he typically appeared in supporting roles and not leads. Projects included Breathing Fire (1991),Corrupt (1999), and The Ultimate Game (2001), for which he also did the martial arts choreography. In 2001, Storm hosted the series of exercise videos entitled Cardio Kung Fu: The Spiritual Workout, and seven years later he played Maginty in director Lexi Alexander's comic book superhero film Punisher: War Zone (2008).

A classically trained performer, Richardson was one of eight students selected for the 1982 National Foundation for the Arts program, leading to a full scholarship for Syracuse University. He would go on to become a successful actor and voice actor, wracking up a long list of roles on everything from Pokemon to The New Batman Adventures. Othyer shows featuring Richardson's distinctive voice include Transformers Prime, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
