Lead singer of the band Queen, which was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Was also a talented graphic artist; designed Queen's crest and many of their album covers. Cemented his reputation as an entertainer with a show-stealing performance at Live Aid on July 13, 1985, before 72,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London; the performance was broadcast to more than one billion people worldwide. Died of AIDS-related bronchial pneumonia on November 24, 1991—one day after publicly acknowledging his illness. Queen's single "Bohemian Rhapsody," which he wrote, was named the United Kingdom's favorite single of all time by the Guinness Book of World Records in 2002. Was ranked 18th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the Top 100 Singers of All Time.
