When corporate lawyer Laura Gibson's life is decimated, she accepts a job as magistrate of a small coastal town and relocates to Pearl Bay with her two kids.

As the kids struggle to survive with no television and Laura's cooking, a lunch invitation to the Jelly house is a welcome distraction, but Bob's motive is soon evident.

Carmen, Meredith's free-spirited niece, breezes into town and reveals that she is both pregnant and on the run from the law. Laura asks Dan for a few cooking lessons.

Laura presides over her first coronial inquest when a teenage boy dies. Dan takes the boy’s friend under his wing to teach him how to be a man.
Episode 10 - The Accidental Activist

When an old crony of Bob's proposes a housing development at a local 'parking' spot for couples, a protest ensues. By pure coincidence, Craig emerges as hero activist.
Episode 11 - Love Me or Leave Me

This year's Pearl Bay Thespians production is a play penned by Harold, with Meredith at the helm. After years in the wings, Heather is cast as the leading lady.
Episode 12 - Perchance to Dream

Jack's fraud trial is finally being heard, and the kids convince Laura to support him in person. Back in the city, unexpected sparks fly between the exes.
Episode 13 - Sex, Death, and Bridges

The locals brace themselves to be reconnected with the outside world as Bob proudly awaits the opening of the repaired bridge. Laura and Dan decide to take the next step.
