Season 4 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - The Vaqueros

While Lucas and Mark are traveling across the Mexican desert they encounter a trio of Mexican bandits who demand payment to cross "their" desert. When Lucas refuses, the three slam him in the throat with his rifle, kidnap Mark, strip him of all his possessions, tie him to a tree and leave him to die of thirst and exposure.

Episode 2 - First Wages

Mark takes a job as a stable boy against his father's wishes.

Episode 3 - Sheer Terror

Mark and Milly are held hostage in her general store when two gunmen attempt a daring robbery.

Episode 4 - The Stand-In

Two prison wagon drivers stop at the McCain ranch looking for whiskey. Lucas turns them down because they are escorting Rudy Croft, a murderer, to be hanged in Yuma. When Croft escapes, the drivers return to the ranch and take Lucas in Croft's place.

Episode 5 - The Journey Back

Mark goes to work for Will Temple, a badly scarred, very mysterious rancher.

Episode 6 - The Decision

Corey Hazlett insists he's innocent of murder, despite Lucas's eyewitness testimony.

Episode 7 - Knight Errant

Lucas tries to dissuade a latter-day knight from rushing into battle.

Episode 8 - Honest Abe

Abe Lincoln's claim that he's the Great Emancipator amuses everyone except Matt Yordy.

Stubborn Grandpa Fogarty is Lucas's main roadblock as he tries to get young Woody Fogarty to attend school.

Episode 10 - The Shattered Idol

Mark Twain visits North Fork and quickly alienates the townspeople.

Lucas tries to stop embittered John Holliver from venting his wrath on the people who expelled him from town years before.

Episode 12 - The High Country

Lucas becomes the target of a vengeful mountaineer after he is responsible for a young mountain boy's death.

Episode 13 - A Friend in Need

When Mark is kidnapped and held for ransom, he finds himself an unwilling companion of gunman Carl Avery.

Episode 14 - Skull

Lucas seeks an escape when he's captured by outlaws while seeking help for an injured Mark.

Episode 15 - The Princess

The young Queen-to-be of France hides out in North Fork with her ill brother.

Episode 16 - Gunfire

Notorious killer Charlie Gordo is being held in the North Fork jail. When word gets around that Gordo's gang is on its way to free him, the whole town becomes frightened and leaves Lucas, Marshal Torrance and Nils to stand up to the gang alone.

Episode 17 - The Quiet Fear

Lucas's old Army pal settles in North Fork with his deaf daughter.

Episode 18 - Sporting Chance

An Englishman arrives with a custom-made rifle and a plan to kill Lucas.

Episode 19 - Young Man's Fancy

Mark falls head-over-heels in puppy love.

Episode 20 - The Man from Salinas

Banker Hamilton is closing up for the day when Rudy Gray persuades him to stay open for one more transaction...a withdrawal at gunpoint.

Episode 21 - Two Ounces of Tin

Tip Corey, the son of a man allegedly murdered in North Fork, has a killer's reputation and comes to town to kill Micah.

Episode 22 - Deadly Image

Len Richards and his brother, Ab, confront a Lucas McCain look-alike, Earl Bantry and his sidekick K.C. Peters, for slaughtering one of Richards' steers. When Bantry kills Ab, Lucas is accused of cold-blooded murder by a man who claims to have been an eyewitness.

Episode 23 - The Debt

Lucas and Mark stop on the way to the county fair to deliver a message to Micah, who is on the trail escorting a prisoner scheduled to be hanged. Mark and Lucas recognize the prisoner, Mr. Renolds, as someone who saved Mark's life from a snake bite a few years back and Mark feels he owes Mr. Renolds a debt.

Episode 24 - Tinhorn

Mark and Milly are shocked when Lucas begins gambling. They don't know that Lucas is "undercover" trying to catch a man cheating.

Episode 25 - None So Blind

Mark befriends singer-banjoist Lafayette Bly, a blind man with an acute sense of hearing and a very strong grip.

Episode 26 - Jealous Man

A retired lawman's irrational jealousy threatens not only to destroy his marriage but also to make him an easy target for someone who wants him dead.

Episode 27 - Guilty Conscience

No one is more surprised than Micah when newcomer Leota Carraway claims he's her long-lost husband and the father of her child.

Episode 28 - Day of Reckoning

Lucas is torn by conflicting emotions when he meets the town's new preacher, a former outlaw whom the Rifleman vowed to kill.

Episode 29 - The Day the Town Slept

The town of North Fork becomes a haven for outlaws when suave Ben Judson smooth-talks his way into the marshal's job.

Episode 30 - Milly's Brother

A handsome gambler moves into town and begins wooing Milly Scott, claiming to have known her deceased brother.

Episode 31 - Outlaw's Shoes

Lucas develops temporary amnesia from a head injury while visiting a strange town and mistakenly assumes the identity of a wanted criminal.

Episode 32 - The Executioner

A former neighbor of the McCains' is released from jail after serving his sentence for stage coach robbery. Lucas agrees to let the man work for him but the new work hand holds a secret.
