Episode 1 - Fake News

Candice Bergen returns as the eponymous broadcast news legend in the revival of the groundbreaking comedy series Murphy Brown. Back in the game after a brief retirement and faced with a world of 24-hour cable, social media, “fake news” and a vastly different political climate, Murphy is determined to draw the line between good television and honest reporting, proving that the world needs Murphy Brown now more than ever. Thirty years since the critically acclaimed, multiple-award-winning show premiered, and 20 years since it concluded, this revival reunites Bergen with series creator Diane English and original series co-stars Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud. Jake McDorman, Nik Dodani and Tyne Daly also star.

  

Episode 2 - I (Don't) Heart Huckabee

After decades of being banned, Murphy and the team devise an elaborate ruse to sneak her into a White House press briefing. Also, Phyllis hires an enthusiastic college “Dreamer,” Miguel (Adan Rocha), to help out at the bar.

  

Episode 3 - #MurphyToo

After Murphy attends a sexual harassment seminar for the Murphy in the Morning staff, she is surprised to find herself reeling from the long-repressed memory of her own #MeToo moment.

  

Episode 4 - Three Shirts to the Wind

Murphy and the team weigh the pros and cons of accepting the offer to have the first interview with a headline-grabbing former White House senior advisor (David Costabile) who wants to promote his divisive book and agenda on Murphy in the Morning. Also, Avery moderates a lively political discussion on his show with locals in Buffalo, N.Y. Original series cast member Charles Kimbrough returns as Jim Dial in his first of three episodes, and Merle Dandridge guest stars as the team’s arrogant network boss, Diana Macomber.

  

Episode 5 - The Girl Who Cried About Wolf

Fearful of being scooped while legal vets her weighty investigative story, Murphy is exasperated when she learns Frank is dating an anchor, Christy Shepherd (Katie Finneran), from the competing Wolf Network. Also, Murphy leads Avery on a wild goose chase when he attempts to figure out her story.

  

Episode 6 - Results May Vary

The Murphy in the Morning team gears up for their live all-day coverage of the mid-term elections, competing against Avery, who is reporting with John Haggerty (Peter Gallagher), the Wolf Network’s conservative superstar. Also, Pat is horrified when Miles forces him to wear a conservative suit after assigning him to analyze numbers and trends on-air throughout the day.

  

Episode 7 - A Lifetime of Achievement

The Murphy in the Morning team, Avery and Phyllis join Jim Dial at an eventful lifetime achievement award gala in his honor, hosted by Katie Couric (playing herself) and attended by Murphy’s worst-ever secretary (Bette Midler), who has a surprising new connection to Murphy. Also, Murphy discovers a kindred spirit in Judge Nate Campbell (John Larroquette), another gala attendee.

  

Episode 8 - The Coma and the Oxford Comma

The Murphy in the Morning team strives to land a revealing first interview with Corky’s beauty pageant friend, Holly (Brooke Shields), who just woke up from a 10-year coma that made national headlines.

  

Episode 9 - Thanksgiving and Taking

When the culinarily challenged Murphy invites her colleagues plus Phyllis, Miguel and his parents (Valente Rodriguez and Selenis Leyva) for Thanksgiving dinner with Avery and her, they all brace themselves for the worst.

  

Episode 10 - Beat the Press

After Frank is physically attacked while covering a political rally, for the first time in her career Murphy is afraid to dispute the opposing viewpoint of a guest on her show.

     

Episode 11 - The Wheels On the Dog Go "Round and Round"

During Corky’s live “National Adopt a Pet Day” segment, she guilts Murphy into adopting a dog. Also, Avery’s show is moved to the Wolf Network’s plum 10:00 PM timeslot, and Phyllis and Miguel get a surprise visit from Fred Noonan (Peter Scolari), an intimidating health inspector.

  

Episode 12 - A.W.O.L.

A disillusioned Avery seeks career inspiration from his extended family at Murphy in the Morning, as the team tries to salvage a major story that hinges on a source in the Middle East who has gone silent.

  

Episode 13 - Happy New Year

The gang tries to distract Murphy from worrying about Avery’s assignment in Kabul by getting her to attend the special 100th anniversary New Year’s Eve celebration at Phil’s Bar, on the season finale of Murphy Brown. Charles Kimbrough returns as Jim Dial. MSNBC anchor and host Lawrence O'Donnell and NBC News chief foreign affairs correspondent and MSNBC host Andrea Mitchell guest star as themselves.
