He is told by the school’s principal, HEADMASTER, that he has been brought there to reach his unique potential through “The Program” and that all the students at Tower Prep possess unique abilities. Ian tries to adjust to his strange new life but after receiving an anonymous note in class saying “I’m Scared Too”, he decides to escape. Making a break for the woods, Ian comes face to face with THE GNOMES – mysterious beings who patrol the school grounds. While fleeing the Gnomes, Ian runs into three other students also looking for an escape, GABE FORREST, CJ WARD and SUKI SATO. Now Ian needs to catch the real thief to clear his name in three days or he’ll be sent to detention at the school’s mysterious WEST CAMPUS – not an easy task since he’s under constant watch by one of the school’s student MONITORS and unable to talk directly with his friends. His search leads him to the discovery of a series of mysterious TUNNELS beneath the school (with possible clues to the origin of the school) which the thief has been using. Ian and his friends race to catch the thief through this strange underworld before time runs out.

The rivalry is made worse when COACH gets Ian a job as Team Manager – effectively making him the ‘towel boy” to Cal. Ian is approached by a different coach - COACH HISTORY - who thinks Ian’s special skills will help his team win against Cal’s team but Ian turns down his offer. When circumstances lead Ian to believe that there is a direct connection between Coach History and The Gnomes, Ian decides to join the Buffer team to possibly infiltrate The Gnomes. As Ian gets deeper in and the championship game looms ever closer, Ian must decide what’s more important to him – being true to his mission and his friends or letting his rivalry with Cal overtake his reasons for playing.
