Season 3 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Call Me Ken Jennings

After taking some time to travel and decompress, Kat (Mayim Bialik) is on her way back to Louisville when she is upgraded to first class and seated next to Jeopardy!’s winningest contestant, Ken Jennings, on her flight home. Upon arrival, she discovers some significant changes have been made to the cafe by Randi (Kyla Pratt) and Phil (Leslie Jordan) and Randi’s passion for her job is now straining her relationship with Carter (Julian Gant). Max (Cheyenne Jackson) has returned home from his time in Nashville pursuing his music career, with cowboy boots and a big ego to go along with them.

  

Episode 2 - Call Me Skeeter Juice

It’s time for Sheila (Swoosie Kurtz) to renew her driver’s license, but she refuses to go take the test and Kat (Mayim Bialik) tries to figure out why. Meanwhile, Phil (Leslie Jordan) urges the group to try his mama’s moonshine despite their skepticism, and Max (Cheyenne Jackson) finally sells a song to be used in a national commercial, but it ends up becoming a big joke online.

  

Episode 3 - Call Me Thor

Kat (Mayim Bialik) spends the day with Max (Cheyenne Jackson) and his nephew, Thor, and realizes she enjoys being around a baby. Carter (Julian Gant) confesses that he has lied to Randi (Kyla Pratt) about liking scary movies and his decision to watch them is haunting him.

  

Episode 4 - Call Me Donor Four-Five-Seven

Kat decides that she would like to pursue motherhood and her friends jump at the chance to help her find a donor. Meanwhile, Max and Carter go check out a competitive bar that just opened, owned by Zac (guest star Kevin Sussman).

  

Episode 5 - Call Me Uncle Dad

Carter hosts a Halloween Octoberfest party at “The Middle C,” but is struggling to get customers in, Randi suggests a ladies’ night instead, which turns out to be a hit. Meanwhile, Kat continues her journey to find a donor and her next opportunity is closer than she might expect. Phil has a great night with a potential love interest.

  

Episode 6 - Call Me the Hot Chick Two

Kat and Max finally go on a first date, after a steamy hookup, but they can’t seem to act like themselves. Carter attempts to train his son, CJ for track, but realizes Randi might make a better coach.

Kat is drained from helping Sheila run errands all over town. Meanwhile, Phil is exhausted from partying every night with his new boyfriend, Jalen (guest star John Griffin), and Carter needs a self-esteem boost. Ted Wass Guest Stars.

Kat’s Murder-Mystery themed Friendsgiving dinner isn’t a crowdpleaser, and Phil has a romantic dilemma. Meanwhile, Kat tries to encourage Max’s career ambitions, but she worries that he has a bigger problem.

Kat joins Max at his rock-climbing gym to keep a close eye on him. Meanwhile, Carter has to spice up the bar after being excluded from a Christmas pub crawl. George Takei guest stars.

  

Episode 10 - Call Me Philliam

Phil’s mother (guest star Vicki Lawrence) shows up at Kat’s Cafe to fill in as baker while Phil is away.

Sheila grows jealous after Kat hits it off with her new retirement home friends. Meanwhile, Randi tries to find a way to tell Carter that she doesn’t like her engagement ring.

Kat hires a new baker, Gideon (guest star Jack McBrayer) at the Kat Cafe and shows him around town, meanwhile Max and Carter wingman for Sheila. Jack McBrayer guest stars.

  

Episode 13 - Call Me Fatty Patty

In celebration of Max's birthday, Kat, Randi and Carter jointly gift him an RV rental so they can road trip to the Smoky Mountains together. Gideon (Guest Star Jack McBrayer) decides to join in on the trip, while Randi and Carter bicker over where they should live together. Jack McBrayer guest stars.

  

Episode 14 - Call Me Better Than Paul Rudd

Kat and Max move in together and host a Super Bowl party in their new apartment but face some relationship trouble along the way. Meanwhile, Randi tries to make some extra cash.

  

Episode 15 - Call Me "Cat’s in the Cradle"

Max receives a surprise visit from his dad (guest star David James Elliott) and for the first time in 30 years... Max isn’t exactly happy to see him, and Kat tries to plan a reunion dinner between the two. Meanwhile, Sheila and Gideon (guest star Jack McBrayer) help Randi and Carter renovate their condo. Episode 16 - Call Me Worth the Wait

When Kat becomes jealous after hearing a song Max wrote, she tries to plan a romantic evening for the two of them to spice up their relationship. Meanwhile, Randi learns how to be a cool yet responsible stepmom.

  

Episode 17 - Call Me Lady Avenger

Sheila must supplement her savings after moving to Valley Hills, which has turned out to be quite an expensive senior community. After coming up short with the job hunt, Kat offers her a job, and it doesn’t go as planned. Meanwhile, Randi and Carter think about the future of their family.

  

Episode 18 - Call Me Toilet Roboto

Max hosts singer Zoey Monroe (guest star Margie Mays) in hopes of advancing his career as a songwriter and although jealous at first, Kat develops a liking to her. Meanwhile, Carter punctures a pipe inside a kitchen cabinet causing a flood in the condo. Randi and Carter find themselves staying at Sheila's for the time being.

  

Episode 19 - Call Me Not Okurrr

In the heat of the moment, Zoey (guest star Margie Mays) kisses Kat at karaoke night. Zoey hopes this moment can be kept between the two of them, but Kat struggles to keep the kiss a secret from Max. During another hectic day of condo renovations, Randi discovers a secret hideaway, that she hides from Carter and transforms into a place for her to unwind. Margie Mays guest stars.

  

Episode 20 - Call Me Consciously Uncoupled

Kat and Max have some news to share but attempt to keep it a secret until after Sheila’s big birthday bash. Meanwhile, Carter breaks a pre-wedding superstition and thinks he is cursed.

  

Episode 21 - Call Me Pretty Kitty

To take her mind off their breakup, Kat attends a cat show with Sheila and Randi; Kat's competitive side is brought to life, when local cat lover Val thinks Kat and her rescue cat have no chance of bringing home a trophy.

  

Episode 22 - Call Me a Donut Wall

Randi and Carter decide to get married at the courthouse. However, things take a turn for the worse when Kat accidentally gets Randi's wedding ring stuck on her finger. Meanwhile, Country superstar Russell Dickerson (guest star) offers Max a life-changing career opportunity and Max must make a big decision about his future.
