Season 12 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - 20 Chefs Compete

Chef Ramsay greets the twenty budding chefs, who are then split into two teams. For the first challenge, each team prepares their signature dish. The winners dine with Chef Ramsay while the losers prep the dining room and the kitchens.

  

Episode 2 - 19 Chefs Compete

The teams compete in a tricycle relay race in which they must work in pairs to complete basic culinary tasks. The winners go on a dinner date with Chef Ramsay in San Francisco, then enjoy a tour of the city on Segways. The losers pick carrots and make soup stock.

  

Episode 3 - 18 Chefs Compete

The teams dig up potatoes until they've acquired 100 pounds' worth. From there, they prepare potato dishes that will hopefully delight Chef Ramsay. The winners have a private dinner on a yacht while the losers clean the livestock.

  

Episode 4 - 17 Chefs Compete

The remaining contestants pair up to make ravioli dishes. The first team to make ten approved dishes win a day spent at a Beverly Hills mansion; the losers prep both kitchens and wrap pennies.

  

Episode 5 - 16 Chefs Compete

The remaining contestants must match side dishes with four different types of protein. The winners spend a day at Laguna Beach while the losers prep honey taffy from scratch.

  

Episode 6 - 15 Chefs Compete

Forgoing a challenge this episode, Chef Ramsay asks both teams to choose a captain for the dinner service, testing the aspiring chefs' communication, co-operation and leadership skills.

  

Episode 7 - 14 Chefs Compete

The teams cook a gourmet pizza that will be judged by Chef Ramsay and Wolfgang Puck. The winners spend the day at a rooftop swimming pool and enjoy a session with a yoga instructor. The losers make pasta for Italian family night in addition to prepping both kitchens.

  

Episode 8 - 13 Chefs Compete

The teams cook sampler dishes for dinner guests at an event honoring the 160th anniversary of the Phi Mu sorority. Each team must serve a chicken, seafood and beef entrée. The winners go on a shopping spree and dine with "Hell's Kitchen" season ten winner Christina Wilson in Las Vegas. The losers prep the dining room under the guidance of the sorority's party committee.

  

Episode 9 - 12 Chefs Compete

Given only thirty minutes, both teams must create a meal with surprise ingredients presented to them every few minutes. The winners are treated to a lunch at the beach and a private volleyball lesson with Olympian Kerri Walsh Jennings; the losers perform the wait staff's chores.

  

Episode 10 - 11 Chefs Compete

Chef Ramsay brings the teams to his eatery and has them prepare the restaurant's signature dishes. Members of the losing team face Ramsay's wrath and are susceptible to elimination.

  

Episode 11 - 10 Chefs Compete: Part 1

The chefs must match eight cuts of pork with their corresponding parts on the body of a pig. The winners get to choose which cut of pork to use in a dish prepared and served to Chef Ramsay. The winners of the challenge go skydiving in a vertical wind tunnel and receive Vitamix blenders. The losers prep the kitchens and make peanut butter from scratch.

  

Episode 12 - 10 Chefs Compete: Part 2

Chef Ramsay orders each chef, one by one, to enter a grocery store in complete darkness, where they must use the sense of touch to collect five ingredients. The contestants have only thirty minutes to use their selected ingredients. Chef Ramsay judges the winning team in a "king of the hill" match involving all of the chefs.

  

Episode 13 - 9 Chefs Compete

Two rappers wake up the contestants by singing their instructions: to create their own menus for both teams. The group with the most popular menu wins the dinner service and is safe from elimination.

  

Episode 14 - 8 Chefs Compete

The contestants take part in the annual blind taste test. The winners take a private ice-skating lesson taught by Olympian Rachael Flatt. The losers make ice cream for the dinner service.

  

Episode 15 - 7 Chefs Compete (Part One)

The chefs take a trip to Bristol Farms supermarket. Given $35, they have fifteen minutes to shop for ingredients and cook three dishes that will be judged by special guests. The winners go on a shopping spree and lunch at the Hatfield restaurant in Los Angeles. The losers clean the dorms and bathrooms.

  

Episode 16 - 7 Chefs Compete (Part Two)

The remaining chefs prepare a dinner service with special guests from Oxfam America, including Academy Award nominee and Oxfam America ambassador Minnie Driver ("Grosse Pointe Blank," "Good Will Hunting," "The Phantom of the Opera").

  

Episode 17 - 6 Chefs Compete

The chefs travel to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and cook gourmet tailgate party-food favorites for USC Trojans football fans. The dish voted best by a group of fifty fans wins. The winners take a trip to the Saddle Peak Lodge in Malibu while the losers sort out the garbage at the tailgate party.

  

Episode 18 - 5 Chefs Compete

Using discarded everyday objects, a rock band treats the contestants to a musical number. The chefs are then given thirty minutes to make a dish using leftovers from the Hell's Kitchen fridge, which will be judged on taste and presentation by Chef Ramsay and magazine food editor Laurie Buckle. The winner receives a photoshoot for "Better Homes and Gardens" while the losers cut pumpkins.

  

Episode 19 - 4 Chefs Compete

The remaining four chefs participate in the "taste it, now make it" challenge. The winner dines at two top-drawer restaurants with guests. The losers move furniture out of the dorms and prep the kitchen for dinner service.

  

Episode 20 - Winner Chosen

The final two chefs attend a Los Angeles night club to compete in their final challenge: prepare two appetizers and three entrées in one hour. On a scale from one to ten, five iconic chefs will judge the dishes. The winner gets first pick in drafting a team using ten chefs eliminated over the course of the season.
