Episode 1 - Pilot, Pt. 1

A sudden plane crash leaves at least 48 survivors stranded on a jungle island, forced to scavenge for survival from the wreckage of the plane. As they get their bearings and pin their hopes on a quick rescue, the band of strangers begin to learn the island holds deep and dark secrets. A group of strong-willed survivors: Jack, a surgical doctor; Charlie, a former rock star; and the enigmatic Kate venture into the dark heart of the jungle to try and recover the airplane transceiver. But even heroes have secrets, as the survivors will soon learn.

                          

Episode 1 - Season 1, Episode 1: Pilot, Pt. 1

Forty-eight survivors stumble from the wreckage of Oceanic Air flight 815, which has crashed on a desert island: Hurley is a man with a warm sense of humour despite the desperate situation; Charlie is a faded rock star with a painful secret; Sayid wrestles with the racial profiling directed at him by some of his fellow survivors; Jin and Sun’s foreign values and language cause much to get lost in translation, and Sawyer has an intense sense of mistrust for everyone around him. Michael’s just gained custody of nine-year-old son, Walt – but father and son don't know each other. Mysterious Locke harbors a deeper connection to the island than any of the others. Siblings Shannon and Boone constantly argue and young Claire is eight months pregnant and ill-prepared for motherhood. The leadership of quick-thinking doctor Jack and level-headed Kate is the best hope the group has for survival.

Shannon's inhaler runs out and Boone believes Sawyer has the remaining three in his stash. When Sawyer refuses to give them up, Jack and Sayid resort to torturing Sawyer until he agrees to reveal the location of the inhalers. In flashback we hear Sawyer's story and find he is not who he says he is.

Sayid's life is placed in grave danger after he stumbles upon the source of the mysterious French transmission, the woman Danielle Rousseau (guest-star Mira Furlan). She was on the distress call and is found alive. Meanwhile, Hurley has a ridiculous plan to make life on the island a little more civilized. The plan involves golf clubs he finds in the debris, and it looks like it just might work. Lastly, we flash back to Sayid's childhood friend Nadia as well as his participation in hostage situations in Iraq.

The episode opens with the passengers on board flight 815. The plane hits turbulence, but flies through it. The characters interact with their fellow passengers, which now include Desmond. The plane lands safely and the characters go their separate ways. We also see events on the island immediately after the explosion. Sawyer, Kate and Miles attempt to rescue Juliet, who's trapped after the detonation of the bomb. They appear to have traveled through time as they're not at the Swan worksite, but at the exploded hatch. Jin appears, announcing that Sayid is wounded. Jacob's ghost appears to Hurley and instructs him to save Sayid by taking him to the Temple. At the Temple, supporters of Jacob arrive with Locke’s body, and "The Others" realize that “Locke” wasn’t who he said he was.
