Season 1 Episode Guide

Episode 1 - Fireworks

A chance meeting atop the Empire State Building brings Ben (Jason Biggs) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) together. Neither Ben's best friend Larry (Tyler Labine) nor Kate’s roommate Connie (Judy Greer) is convinced it will work. Yet after a series of unfortunate misunderstandings threaten to undermine the fledging romance, Larry and Connie set aside their contempt for one another to give Ben and Kate’s relationship a second chance.

  

Episode 2 - Friends and Other Obstacles

For their first official date – one without their best friends along for the ride – Ben (Jason Biggs) and Kate (Sarah Chalke) arrange to have dinner together. But after work gets in the way and they end up at Kate’s apartment for an impromptu meal, their plans are derailed when Connie (Judy Greer) and Larry (Tyler Labine) end up at the apartment, too. Guest starring Martin Starr.

  

Episode 3 - The Kate Gatsby

“The Kate Gatsby” Kate (Sarah Chalke) tells Ben (Jason Biggs) that she has grown tired of the high-anxiety themed birthday parties Connie (Judy Greer) has been giving her for the last twenty-five years. But when Ben encourages her to tell the truth, his advice backfires and Connie bans Kate from her own party. Meanwhile, Ben enlists Larry (Tyler Labine) in his search for the perfect birthday gift.

  

Episode 4 - Little Sister, Big City

During a visit by Kate’s (Sarah Chalke) little sister, Ben (Jason Biggs) is surprised to discover that, instead of the awkward young girl he’s expecting, Julia (guest star Brittany Snow) is a beautiful young woman who is ready for a big city adventure. Meanwhile, Connie (Judy Greer) and Larry (Tyler Labine) agree to be each other’s “wingmen” as they troll for dates at Monroe’s.

  

Episode 5 - To Munsch or Not to Munsch

When Connie (Judy Greer) balks at having lunch together, Ben (Jason Biggs) is convinced that she doesn’t like him. So as Ben sets out to win Connie’s friendship, Kate (Sarah Chalke) takes Larry (Tyler Labine) to task for his insensitive efforts to dump a date he doesn’t like. Meanwhile, Tiffany (Sarah Wright) ropes a reluctant Connie into to caring for a friend’s kids as well as her own

  

Episode 6 - The Spy Who Loved Me

After claiming she doesn’t care that Ben (Jason Biggs) is working with his ex-girlfriend (Rachel Boston), Kate (Sarah Chalke) uses the building’s security cameras to spy on them. And as Larry (Tyler Labine) is stalking a beautiful but elusive woman who also works in the Empire State Building, he discovers that Connie (Judy Greer) is unwittingly dating a married man (guest star Reid Scott).

  

Episode 7 - Baby, You Can Drive My Car

With Ben (Jason Biggs) selling his car, Larry (Tyler Labine) proposes a road trip weekend, only to have Kate (Sarah Chalke) finagle an invitation for herself and Connie (Judy Greer), too. And as Kate struggles to respond when Ben suddenly blurts out that he loves her, Connie flirts with a state trooper (Guest star Chris Parnell) in order to avoid a speeding ticket.

  

Episode 8 - Paw and Order

Despite Connie’s (Judy Greer) reminders about how bad she has always been with animals, Kate (Sarah Chalke) agrees to care for her boss’s dog and enlists Ben (Jason Biggs) to help. Meanwhile, when Officer Dennis Barrett (guest star Chris Parnell) comes to visit Connie (Judy Greer), Larry (Tyler Labine) resolves to become his best friend and get him to dismiss a traffic ticket.

  

Episode 9 - Pub Quiz

Ben (Jason Biggs) and Larry (Tyler Labine) are excited to defend their pub quiz championship title, until a prospective client (guest star Eric Artell) threatens to keep them from getting there on time. Meanwhile, a handsome masseuse who lifts Connie’s (Judy Greer) sagging spirits with compliments about her skin makes Kate (Sarah Chalke) feel old after finding a grey hair on her chin.

  

Episode 10 - The Young and the Reckless

After Ben (Jason Biggs) convinces her to ditch work for Coney Island, Kate (Sarah Chalke) drags him away to ride the Staten Island Ferry. As their adventure turns sour and threatens to derail Ben’s important speaking engagement, Connie (Judy Greer) struggles to impress an editor with her new children’s book while Larry (Tyler Labine) is smitten with Connie’s boss, Tiffany (Sarah Wright).

  

Episode 11 - The Secret Life of Larry

When Larry (Tyler Labine) accidentally loses Connie’s (Judy Greer) camera and all the pictures she was hoping to use for her book, the search forces him to reveal a secret he’s been harboring. Meanwhile, after Ben (Jason Biggs) innocently reveals an embarrassing story about Kate’s habits in the shower, Kate’s (Sarah Chalke) attempt at getting even causes him to feel self-conscious in court.

  

Episode 12 - Friends

As Larry (Tyler Labine) tries using his no-fail system to woo Tiffany in the wake of her divorce, an unexpected attack of conscience stands his way. And when Connie (Judy Greer) lands a job with TV cooking show host Linda Clay (guest star Kathryn Hahn), her biggest fan Kate (Sarah Chalke) takes the opportunity to become Linda’s new best friend.

                 

Episode 13 - After the Fireworks

Ben (Jason Biggs) is all set to ask Kate (Sarah Chalke) to move in with him, until she reveals that she is married to a high-school boyfriend. And as Kate struggles to explain, Larry (Tyler Labine) agrees to represent Tiffany (Sarah Wright) in a divorce and defends Connie (Judy Greer) against her dad’s (guest star Martin Mull) fiancée Penny’s (guest star Christine Rose) harsh critiques.
