Episode 1 - VRDLK: Family of Vurdulak

A traveling diplomat is caught in a snowstorm and forced to take shelter with a poor Serbian family. When the family warns him of "beasts" that hunt in the night, he is quick to dismiss their fears as superstition and fairy tales - a mistake he may not have a chance to make twice. Based on acclaimed Russian writer, Aleksey Tolstoy's 1839 gothic novella, "The Family of The Vourdulak".

  

Episode 2 - The Forest King

Within the tunnels of a soulless technocratic system, a father struggles to save his son from the consciousness harvesting power of the metaverse. Adapted from the poem "The Forest Tsar" written in 1818 by Vasiliy Zhukovsky.

  

Episode 3 - The Ratcatcher's Daughter

In the bitterly cold streets of Petrograd, the daughter of an infamous Ratcatcher flirts with a revolutionist and is thrust into a nail-biting, journey into the dark, mysterious forgotten underworld. Based on a tragic love story by Alexander Grin, 'The Ratcatcher's Daughter' paints a grim tale of 1920's post war Russia, plagued by poverty, addiction and the threat of revolution.

  

Episode 4 - The Undertaker

Moscow, 1830. Adrian, a lanky and morose Undertaker is surrounded by disease, poverty and injustice. Every time something remotely hopeful happens to him, it immediately fades away and decays. Insulating himself from the outer world Adrian finds escape in his beloved vocation: taking care of the dead. Based on the short story "The Undertaker" by Aleksander Pushkin, 1831.

  

Episode 5 - Lord

The brutal Lord of a band of renegades sets out on a robber raid across the desert inhabited by nomadic mutant tribes and monstrous beasts in the post-apocalyptic world. Lord's young Driver is known simply as a fool to the rest of the raiders, but when ambushed by nomads, the Driver is the only survivor. Based on the short story "Hopeless" by Dmitry Tikhonov, 2015

  

Episode 6 - No.8 Reporting

Citizens from the well-fed, fenced off city can only venture beyond the walls on a train that distributes humanitarian aid. One reporter is determined to find out what really happens outside the city. Adapted from the 2007 short story "Mozharovo" by Dmitry Bykov.
