With the respective stresses of starting her own agency and adapting to Naomi's presence, Renee and Sondi enlist the help of Hope to snap Whitney out of her sadness spiral and move on with her life after Ola. With Hope on Whitney duty, Renee manages to get a dinner meeting with Mia at L'Oréal, but Renee and Abby struggle to get on the same page with their new venture. Sondi tries to reenforce her importance in Amari's life during a family dinner with Naomi, but realizes that she may need to reassess her priorities when Professor Baptiste offers her a summer teacher's assistant position.

Hoping to get her business up and running, Renee tags along with Whitney to the annual mixer for the Association for Business Professionals of Color where she makes an unexpected business contact and friend. Sondi goes head-to-head with Matthew in a student versus faculty debate, all while struggling to confess that she kept her campus apartment as Matthew deals with his brownstone's leaking roof.

Baptiste presents Sondi with a fellowship opportunity to get paid to write her dissertation. Whitney runs into Ola, who is on a date with Whitney's regular barista.

Episode 7 - A Rage in Harlem

Whitney unexpectedly gets set up with Phillip Houston, as she throws a housewarming party for her new condo. Renee knows she has to cut Preston loose since her revelation that she's still in love with Jason. Sondi meets a handsome documentary filmmaker, right before a run-in with Matthew at the campus library.

Episode 8 - No Regrets

Renee offers to help Jason with the band's listening party, as winning him back becomes a challenge. Stressed about her annual work review, Whitney turns to Ola for support, but the question still remains whether they can ever be friends. Sondi's new relationship makes her question her career path. Barb takes her own advice that it's better to act while you can than live with regret.
