The answer lies with Sony Wang...an immigration consultant who orchestrated one of the most largest immigrants scams in Canadian history. The twist in this tale isn’t that the people were trying to sneak into the country; it’s that they were sneaking out, pretending to be Canadian residents while having no intention of living here.

Their parents knew there was little chance of survival. So when one of Canada’s leading hospitals offered what they believed was a glimmer of hope in the form of a study involving a combination of drugs never tried before on children, they jumped at it. But there were no miracles. And within a short time, Health Canada shut down the study, saying it threatened the safety and rights of the patients. Episode 14 - The Soldier and the Survivor | Murder on Cortes Island

When Ramiro Cristales was 5-years old, he watched his family get killed by members of the Guatemalan Army. That was December of 1982. A soldier spared Ramiro’s life….and then adopted him. In 1999, a Guatemalan human rights group sent him to Canada for his protection because word had leaked out he was a survivor of the massacre. He was put in witness protection in Canada. A few years later he told authorities about his adoptive father….who in December was convicted and is now in jail.
