Episode 1 - The Flying Nun

Arriving in wind-swept San Juan to enter the Convent San Tanco, Sister Bertrille , a novice from the U.S., discovers that she can fly. Before Sister Jacqueline and Sister Sixto reach the pier to welcome her, Sister Bertrille is blown into the sea. She swims to the yacht of Carlos Ramirez, a wealthy discotheque owner and unwittingly spoils Carlos' plans for a fun-filled weekend. At the convent, again lifted by the wind, Sister Bertrille concludes that her flying is a quirk of aerodynamics controlled by the tilt of her cornette. Appalled by the shabbiness of the children and lack of space and equipment, Sister Bertrille starts a campaign to raise money. Mother Superior, who has been fighting poverty for years, is outraged when she finds the nuns selling cookies, paintings, and straw hats, putting on a show in the town square. Sister Bertrille learns that Carlos owns a piece of land the sisters need but can't persuade him to donate it to them. When the wind carries her off again, Sister Bertrille stuns a submarine crew by landing on their surfaced craft. Carlos, en route to a rendezvous with Louise, sees Sister Bertrille flying near his plane. Feeling he has had a religious experience, he turns back and donates his land to the convent. Sister Bertrille crashes into an Army base and is held as a spy. She is released when Mother Superior and Sister Jacqueline vouch for her and Carlos testifies he saw her flying. Sister Bertrille sews weights in her habit to keep her grounded and turns down an offer to appear on the Ed Sullivan show.

Episode 2 - With Love from Irving

While flying over a beach, Sr. Bertrille loses her crucifix. A pelican watches while she looks for it. Finding the bird has a bruised leg, she bandages it. When she leaves, the pelican follows her back to the convent. Sr. Jacqueline reports that Fr. Sweeney has come to interview Rev. Mother before he recommends her as Dean of Women at his college. She suggests that Sr. Bertrille refrain from flying during his stay. Irving, the pelican, follows Sr. Bertrille around and shows his affection by dropping fish into her plate in the refectory, joining the children in the classroom, and bringing her seashells. Sr. Bertrille is stunned when Sr. Jacqueline tells her that Irving thinks she is a pelican and has fallen in love with her. She tries to escort him back to the beach but gets stuck in a tree. Rev. Mother and Fr. Sweeney find her dangling. Unable to explain to Fr. Sweeney, Rev. Mother orders Sr. Bertrille to get rid of the pelican. Irving refuses to leave and goes on a hunger strike. Rev. Mother summons a vet, who diagnoses that Irving is suffering from Sr. Bertrille's rejection. As a cure, he brings several girl pelicans to the convent. Irving refuses any substitute for Sr. Bertrille until she tricks him into accepting Emma Lou. The two birds fly off together. Fr. Sweeney leaves. Sr. Bertrille is distressed that he did not recommend Rev. Mother for the appointment, and feels herself responsible. She is happy to learn that Rev. Mother prefers to stay at Convent San Tanco. Later, Sr. Bertrille finds her crucifix, covered with sand. She realizes it is a parting gift from Irving.

Episode 3 - It's an Ill Wind

Sister Bertrille finds that Mother Superior has left important papers behind when she goes to St. Thomas. Carlos, entertaining a beautiful girl, and fending off FBI man Owens, refuses to fly the papers to Mother Superior. Sister Bertrille, delivering them herself, loses her way and decides to rest on a small island, where Talc Edwards and his mob are making plans to take over a rival territory. As Sister Bertrille zooms in, Talc, sure she is supernatural, decides to reform. Sister Bertrille somehow switches Mother Superior's envelope with one containing details of the mob's worldwide operations. Louis Larue and his executioners, coming for final instructions to wipe out the rival gang, find Talc's gang singing hymns with Sister Bertrille. Larue's men leave, but Talc is sure they will return to get them on orders from the rival gang. As Sister Bertrille flies over, Larue's pilot becomes unnerved. He loses control and the plane crashes. Completely reformed, Talc's men go to the rescue. At the convent, Sister Jacqueline finds the mobsters' plans. Sister Bertrille goes to Carlos to ask him to deliver them to Talc, and Owens intercepts them. He is amazed when Sister Bertrille insists Talc and his mob are perfect gentlemen. As the gangsters are rounded up, Sister Bertrille joins them in a final hymn.

Episode 4 - Young Man With a Cornette

Rev. Mother accepts Dr. Tapia's advice to take a restful ocean voyage to a conference in Miami after seeing Sr. Bertrille fly into a tree to rescue a cat. Before leaving, she makes Sr. Bertrille promise not to reveal she can fly. In a hospital, Sr. Bertrille meets little Charlie Webster, possibly the world's most precocious liar. Dr. Tapia explains that Charlie, who lost both parents in an accident, creates his own world of fantasies because he feels everything he loves will be taken from him. Charlie, crazy about flying, shows Sr. Bertrille his secret place, the top branch of a tall tree. While helping Charlie fly his kite, Sr. Bertrille is borne aloft, and explains her cornette and slight build are responsible. Before she can warn him to keep her secret, Charlie spreads it around the hospital. When the children and staff dismiss it as just another story, Charlie asks Sr. Bertrille to confirm it. Naturally, she can't, and Charlie runs away. Determined to win him back, Sr. Bertrille flies out to Rev. Mother's ship for release from her promise. Returning to the convent, Sr. Bertrille finds Charlie has filched her cornette. She realizes he intends to use it to fly and thus prove his story. She reaches Charlie's secret place to prevent his taking off and now explains she has permission to back his story. To her surprise, Charlie tells everyone it was a fib. When he tells her he wants to spare her from curious crowds who might invade the convent, Sr. Bertrille realizes Charlie has moved into the world of reality.

Episode 5 - The Patron of Santa Thomasina

Hoping to have the children of Santa Thomasina, a remote village, come to the convent school, Reverend Mother sends Sister Bertrille and Sister Jacqueline to visit. Before they arrive, men of a rival village change the sign at the fork in the road. When the nuns reveal they were invited by Pedro Caracol, the villagers revile him as the leader of bandits and pig stealers. Sister Bertrille decides to fly to the other village to check. She is seen taking off by Juanito, whose father thinks he is lying. Meanwhile, Pedro and his men raid the village and take the plaster image of Santa Thomasina, the patron saint. As Sister Bertrille returns, the villagers, seeing her in flight, take it as a miracle. Despite Sister Bertrille's protests, Francisco declares Santa Thomasina herself has come to lead them against their enemies. Then Pedro approaches with his "army." Each side claims his village is the real Santa Thomasina, owners of the image, and starts to battle. To settle the dispute, Sister Bertrille suggests she split the statue, each side to get half. As a compromise, they agree to set the image at the fork in the road, and name the villages East and West Santa Thomasina. The nuns are sure everything is peaceful until the rivals fight for the sisters to come to their village, and then for the honor of escorting them back to San Taco.

To keep his date with Paula, Carlos arranges an outing for Sister Bertrille and the children at the plantation of a friend. They set out but lose their way just as a storm approaches, and the station wagon breaks down. Sister Bertrille takes to the air to spot a phone but her cornette gets soaked and she can't fly. Sister Jacqueline phones Carlos, who is entertaining Paula in his office. He is sure Sister Bertrille and the children are safe, but realizes it is no time for romance when he finds they never arrived. From his plane, Carlos spots Sister Bertrille's campfire and radios its location just before his plane conks out. After returning to the convent, Sister Bertrille learns of the search for Carlos and gets permission to help. Taking to the air, Sister Bertrille finds Carlos at a pool, with Gina, another beauty. Deep in the mine, Sister Bertrille finds an opening high above. They try to throw rocks through it but the first one bounces back on Bill's head. He produces some bourbon for first aid but Sister Bertrille pours it over his head to prevent infection. They try to rig up a catapult and a ladder but fail. At the Weather Bureau, Sr. Bertrille learns of experiments in seeding clouds with pellets of dry ice. The three nuns fill wheelbarrows full of dry ice at Carlos Ramirez' discotheque. Sr. Bertrille takes to the air to seed the clouds and soon snow is falling on the convent. When trade winds carry her over San Juan, snow starts to fall and the tourists head for home. Mother Superior remarks it won't be a very Merry Christmas in San Juan. Carlos learns that Sr. Bertrille is responsible and scolds her. She suggests that Carlos collect money from his friends for the little people. Carlos collects $5000 and Sr. Bertrille goes aloft to drop bills instead of snow. The tourists decide to stay and wire everyone to come to San Juan. Knowing the businessmen will never believe the true story, Carlos goes broke in paying them off. For safe keeping, he puts them in an encyclopedia, which finds its way onto the discard pile. The magnifying glass starts a fire, burning up the bookshelves. Sr. Bertrille swaps the discarded books for new shelves with Swapping Salvador. Bro. Paul later remembers where he put the old parchments. Sr. Bertrille panics when Sr. Jacqueline informs her Salvador has planned to grind the old books into pulp. She flies to Salvador's yard just in time to save the parchments. Paul is assigned to work at the Vatican Library as a reward for recovering the lost scrolls of San Tanco. After he leaves, Sr. Bertrille has a series of accidents. Sister Bertrille has doubts because Pedro can't tell an F from a P, and is confused by words that sound the same but are spelled differently. Pedro is ready to give up until he hears a sonnet by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and borrows the book from Sister Bertrille. The Bishop is impressed until he finds that Pedro can't read but memorized the poem. To prove he did learn to write, Pedro unrolls a huge banner, "Welcome Bish. Pool." Sister Bertrille talks Carlos into becoming Mike's manager, and the children set up a training program to get him in shape. Sister Bertrille even flies a little to help. Sparring with Carlos, Mike at first refuses to hit him, but finally knocks him out with a one-two. Carlos schedules Mike against El Carnicero (the butcher). Sister Bertrille and Sister Jacqueline set out to return Raffles' big haul -- six purses. The car gets a flat tire and they panic at Officer Peralta's approach. Later, he can't explain the six purses in his squad car to his sergeant. Mother Superior decides Raffles must go to the pound if his owner doesn't respond to a "Lost Dog" ad. Sister Bertrille prepares to take him to the pound, first flying up to return the Monsignor's wallet. The Gypsy finds the Sisters' ad, but Raffles is gone. Carmelita reports Jamie gone too. He gets it moving again, but in reverse, Sister Bertrille returns the car to Hernando, who buys it back at a handsome profit. She borrows Carlos' luxurious station wagon and parks it in the driveway of the convent while she gets a lift to town. Sister Jacqueline is impressed by Sister Bertrille's "bargain." When a basement wall begins to crack, Mother Superior, in the emergency, orders Sister Jacqueline to return the car to Hernando and get the money back. Unwittingly she sells Carlos' car. As each sets out to find fresh water, Sister Bertrille is petrified by a mud-covered creature emerging from a tide pool, who proves to be April Chance. Sister Bertrille knows she must keep her away from Carlos, especially when she learns the yacht sank. Carlos patches up the cornette but it's too limp to fly. Episode 25 - A Bell for San Tanco

Almost three centuries old, the convent bell goes flat. Sr. Bertrille works on the bell but rusted beyond repair, it cracks. Sr. Jacqueline reveals a new bell had been sent from Belgium long ago, but the ship carrying it sank off the coast. To salvage it would require a fortune and a boat. Sr. Bertrille decides to approach Carlos Ramirez, who has both. She goes to his yacht and finds Carlos with Binkie Wadsworth, a languid beauty, who is bored by his suggestions to amuse her. Carlos flatly refuses to help retrieve the bell but Binkie, hearing the sunken ship is marked on a map in a "haunted house" hails it as a new adventure. Seeing his opportunity to arouse Binkie's interest, Carlos orders Pedro to plant a map, and a bell, which Carlos will then retrieve on a weekend treasure hunt with Binkie. Sr. Bertrille gets reluctant permission to search the "haunted house" with Sr. Jacqueline and Sr. Ana. Bearing lanterns, they arrive about the same time as Carlos and Binkie. Remembering the "ghosts," everyone is terrified, until they meet and find Pedro's planted map. Forced to take Sr. Bertrille along, Carlos casts off. Bored by Carlos' unsuccessful dives, Binkie starts fishing. Just as Carlos and Pedro hoist up the bell, Binkie is yanked overboard. As Binkie clings to driftwood, Sr. Bertrille flies overhead and drops her a life preserver. Later, in the hospital, Binkie, convinced she has had a vision, resolves to change her ways. Carlos and Pedro are stunned to find they have salvaged the real bell for San Tanco.
