Is of African and Korean descent. Sohn is her mother's maiden name. Has admitted to abusing and selling drugs during her teen years, when she was also an honors student, cheerleader and homecoming queen.
Got her start as a slam poet. She performed at Woodstock in 1994 and in HBO's Def Poetry Jam in 2003. Recorded 1998's Rise with Irish DJ Noel Watson under the name Fini Dolo.
Co-wrote the film Slam, which won the Sundance Festival Grand Jury Prize and the Cannes Camera D'Or in 1998.
