Trivia: In films from 1951, handsome actor Warren Stevens' better-known roles include the Howard Hughes-ish Kirk Edwards in The Barefoot Contessa (1954) and the authoritative Lieutenant "Doc" Ostrow in Forbidden Planet (1956). A tireless TV performer, Stevens was starred as Lt. William Storm in the 1956 adventure series Tales of the 77th Bengal Lancers; was among the eleven "repertory actors" appearing in the 1963 anthology The Richard Boone Show; and was heard but not seen as movie mogul John Bracken on the 1969 prime-timer Bracken's World (ironically, when Bracken did appear, he was played by Stevens' old Forbidden Planet co-star Leslie Nielsen). In 1972, Warren Stevens was cast as Elliot Carson in the daytime soap opera Return to Peyton Place; nine years later, he played Merritt Madison in Behind the Screen, a short-lived series which took place on the set of a fictional soap opera.

Trivia: American actor Barry Atwater was tall enough but not handsome enough to be a leading man, so his film and TV career found him playing villains, authority figures and medical men. A stage and TV veteran, Atwater's first film appearance was in Hitchcock's The Wrong Man (1956) though you'd never know it from the opening credits. Longtime fans of the ABC daytime drama General Hospital will recall Atwater's performances as Dr. John Prentice, who married nurse Jessie Brewer (Emily McLaughlin) and later was unceremoniously murdered. Barry Atwater's most spectacular acting assignment was as Janos Skorzeny, the modern-day vampire terrorizing Las Vegas in the classic made-for-TV chiller The Night Stalker (1956).

Bethel Leslie (Actor) .. Betty Barrett

Trivia: An actress since her early teens, Bethel Leslie made her Broadway bow opposite Conrad Janis in 1944's Snafu. Leslie later appeared as Rachel in the original 1956 production of Inherit the Wind; she went on to gain near-legendary status among West Coast actors for her work in a 1959 staging of Career, aging 30 years in the third act simply by wearing a hat. Though she has been in films sporadically since 1958, she is most widely known for her television work. Her first series stint was as Cornelia Otis Skinner in The Girls (1950), a TV-sitcom adaptation of Ms. Skinner's autobiography Our Hearts Were Young and Gay. Together with Vera Miles and Beverly Garland, she was one of the busiest and most-in-demand TV guest actresses of the 1950s and 1960s; she played everything from kidnap victims to cold-blooded murderesses, and was seen as three different defendants on three different Perry Mason episodes. Her versatility really got a workout on The Richard Boone Show (1963), a weekly TV anthology wherein a repertory company of eleven actors played parts in all the plays. More recently, Bethel Leslie has evinced a preference for the stage; one of her most formidable assignments was the killer part of Mary Tyrone in Eugene O'Neill's Long Day's Journey Into Night.

Trivia: Character actor Art Batanides made a number of appearances in film and television, but will be best remembered for his work on the Police Academy franchise and on the extremely popular late-'70s/early-'80s television series Happy Days. Batanides died in early 2000, at age 77.

Leonard Strong (Actor) .. Conductor

Died: January 23, 1980

Trivia: Born in Utah, actor Leonard Strong specialized in Asian roles. From Little Tokyo, U.S.A. (1942) to the end of WWII, Strong trafficked in villainous "Jap" stereotypes, never speaking when hissing would do. One of his best-remembered postwar film roles was the obsequious Siamese interpreter in both Anna and the King of Siam (1946) and its musical remake The King and I (1956). A busy TV performer, Leonard Strong was seen from time to time as the Dr. No-like enemy agent the Claw ("No, not 'Craw!'") on the satirical sitcom Get Smart (1965-1970).
