Episode 1 - No Place Like Home

As winter draws near, Port Protection residents ready themselves for Mother Nature’s cruelest months. With his freezer low on venison, Gary Muehlberger trudges through the Alaskan brush in search of deer. Matt Carlson begins a long journey home alone after having left his family behind in Ketchikan. Mary Miller must first repair an outhaul before collecting firewood. David Squibb and partner Kris set out a halibut line in hopes of catching enough fish to get through the winter.

     

Episode 2 - Cry Wolf

The residents of Port Protection prepare to survive the harsh winter. Gary Muehlberger ventures outside the safety of Port Protection in search of clams and crabs. Matt Carlson and his father Sam attempt to repair an old oil stove to provide heat. Tim “Curly” Leach and his dog search the Alaskan wetlands for duck and geese. Mary Miller hopes to catch enough fish to fill her freezer.

  

Episode 3 - The Power of One

Living in Port Protection is a never-ending education on the art of survival. David Squibb fights tides and a rocky beach to install a wind generator. Mary Miller uses her carpentry skills to better preserve her meat supplies. Gary Muehlberger and old friend Litzi Botello try their luck catching a yellow eye. Curly Leach must repair his home before stockpiling firewood.

  

Episode 4 - Chasing Ghosts

Port Protection residents must work together to make it through the winter. Sam Carlson and his son Matt explore new terrain in the hopes of bagging a buck. Gary Muehlberger brings down a massive tree to build a woodshed. New Port Protection resident Breanna Miethe takes on the challenge of felling her first tree. Fisherman Stuart Andrews struggles to fill his winter freezer with fish.

  

Episode 5 - Wise Guys

During the wintertime in Port Protection, residents must continue to persist if they wish to survive. Gary Muehlberger sets out on a multiple-day fishing trip. Sam Carlson devises a plan to trap a mink that has been stealing from his pantry. David Squibb attempts to make cutting firewood more efficient. Matt Carlson is visited by his daughter and gives her a tour of Port Protection.

  

Episode 6 - Water Works

With the water pipes leading into her house failing, Mary Miller needs to install a backup rainwater catchment system. Litzi Botello is reminded life is precious when she has to rescue her son’s old float house. Gary Muehlberger goes trapping for fresh marten in order to make a new fur hat. Matt Carlson searches for beach logs in hopes of providing much-needed firewood for the community.

  

Episode 7 - No Pain

Persistence and patience are crucial for those hoping to survive in Port Protection. Sam Carlson passes on his chainsaw-mill knowledge to son Matt, as the two take on a construction project. Gary Muehlberger teaches old pal Litzi Botello about a new beach bounty. Oliver Johnson and Breanna Miethe work to secure their future, while Curly Leach struggles against snow and steelhead salmon

  

Episode 8 - Troubled Waters

It takes a lifetime to learn the tricks of the trade in Port Protection and survive the winter. Fisherman Sam Carlson sets out to catch a halibut for his diminishing stores. Gary Muehlberger struggles to find firewood to fill his emptied woodshed. Mary Miller must perform maintenance on her skiff before she can search for firewood. And Matt Carlson goes out in search of king salmon.

  

Episode 9 - Do or Die

As temperatures drop, residents take steps to secure their foothold. David Squibb enlists the help of Sam Carlson to replenish his depleted wood stash. Curly Leach attempts to thin out the island’s mink population. Gary Muehlberger calls on the young Matt Carlson to help reconstruct his greenhouse. Oliver Johnson and partner Breanna Miethe take their boat out for a much-needed “shakedown” cruise.

  

Episode 10 - On The Edge

Residents of Port Protection struggle to thrive as winter nears its end. Gary Muehlberger heads out for halibut. Mary Miller calls on pal Curly Leach to clear massive trees in her backyard. Matt Carlson tackles a new project with his sawmill, helping family friend Litzi Botello repair her boardwalk. David Squibb relies on Sam Carlson’s expertise to remedy a safety issue for all.
