What to Watch on Prime Video Right Now

Our editors have picked the top new arrivals on Prime Video this week, featuring gripping crime dramas, acclaimed international series, blockbuster movies and binge-worthy TV favourites.

Fuze

An entertaining action thriller set around the discovery of a WWII bomb on a construction site, leading to a mass evacuation, which is a clever ruse to mask a bank robbery in the vicinity. But the heist turns into a convoluted story of twists and turn and double-crossing that leads to an unusual, and improbable, outcome. The talented ensemble cast includes Theo James, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Sam Worthington.

Virtuoso

This slow-moving thriller starring Anson Mount follows methodical hitman Virtuoso, who also narrates the story, which does become tedious. After botching an assignment, he begins to doubt his abilities. When Virtuoso is given a new hit without any description, he ends up in a diner with a number of patrons, any one of whom could be his target – or is he the target? Anthony Hopkins is superb as Virtuoso’s controller.

The Rewrite

Hugh Grant is at his best in this romantic comedy as a failed, broke screen writer who reluctantly takes a teaching job at a university. Whilst his cynical attitude does not fit well with some members of the faculty, his witty charm does endear him to the head of the college, his fellow lecturer/neighbor and a single mom who is working and studying. An entertaining story of second chances and redemption.

Death on the Tyne

A hilarious take on the whodunit scenario where tour guides Terry and Gemma take three older women from a nursing home on an overnight ferry trip from Newcastle to Amsterdam. As the voyage progresses, passengers and crew members are murdered one by one in unusual circumstances. Veteran actors Sheila Reid, Sue Johnston and Georgie Glen are superb as the elderly ladies. A sequel to Murder on the Blackpool Express.

Vanished

In this tense, thriller series Kaley Cuoco gives an emotional performance as Alice Monroe who is on holiday with her boyfriend in Marseilles when he suddenly vanishes. A local journalist offers assistance, but she has her own agenda and may be untrustworthy. The police also are nonchalant and unhelpful. With no one to turn to, Alice begins her own investigation uncovering a scenario she could never have imagined.

Harry Wild

In this entertaining murder mystery series, Jane Seymour is retired English professor Harry Wild, who is struggling with her new situation. When she stays with her police detective son, Harry is soon snooping into one of his cases, much to his annoyance. But her insights do prove to be useful as she teams up with teenage mugger Fergus who snatched her bag. Harry and Fergus’s interactions are at the heart of this refreshing take on crime detection.

Family Detective

A delightful comedy set in Rennes, France where police captain Charline’s parents, Claire and Philippe, are the heart of the series. They are crime fanatics and take immense joy in helping Charline solve any murder case that she is assigned. Humorous family friction abounds as Charlene deals with her annoying parents, a break-up in her relationship and a new job.

Novak Djokovic: The Wolf in Winter

An insightful documentary on tennis champion Novak Djokovic exploring his childhood in Serbia during the war, the sacrifices made by his family to achieve his dream in a sport dominated by Federer and Nadal. It delves into his family life and the effect his competitive drive has on his time with them off the court. There are interesting observations around his 2025 Australian Open campaign and the unpopularity that ensued.

Psychic Witness

It is unusual for police to turn to forensic psychics to assist with crime solving, but this series reveals how stalled investigations can benefit from their insights. Using reenactments and interviews with family members, police and psychics real-life cases are explored when normal leads are futile. Forensic psychics perceive details of the crime through the victim’s energy and memory. An interesting aspect of crime from an unconventional source.

Conspiracy theories abound in the media obsessed world we inhabit.
